The Sage Hotel

For what this cost, I expected a lot more. The room wasn’t very clean, and the chair had crumbs all over it when we arrived. The shower pressure was barely there. I also expected decent free Wi-Fi and a microwave, but there was no microwave, and they charged $15 per night for Wi-Fi and the pool. The pool was closed, and the Wi-Fi kept dropping out, reaching only 4 Mbps at best. The previous night, we stayed elsewhere in town for $50 less per night and didn’t have these problems. The contactless iPads at check-in were supposed to save time, but couldn’t find our reservation or another guest’s. Staff had to look things up manually, which took several minutes. One of the charging strips on the nightstands beeped loudly every four seconds. Breakfast was pretty decent for a typical hotel. At half the price, I probably wouldn’t have minded these things as much, but for this rate, I did.

The Sage Hotel is handy for getting around downtown Santa Fe, and I appreciated how dog-friendly it is. They also offer a free shuttle downtown, though I didn’t use it. The staff were very friendly, with no complaints there. My stay was average. The rooms are basic, nothing special, and could use some updating. From the attached photos, they didn’t seem to live up to expectations. It’s a decent choice for the location, but I wouldn’t expect much from the rooms.

I’ve stayed here a few times and generally like the hotel, and for Santa Fe it’s still a good option. The breakfast is good, and the lounge has good drinks and live bands on certain nights. But last night I ran into my worst worry: bedbugs. I thought I’d checked the room before settling in, looking for dead bugs and blood spots under the bed, behind the dresser, and in the bathroom. I noticed particles under the mattress, almost like popcorn shells. The hotel removed one night’s fees, but I’d rather pay the full price and have peace of mind. I understand these critters can be anywhere.

The price was very affordable for the quality, and the continental breakfast had lots of choices and was exceptional. Our room was spotless, with extra-comfortable beds that made for a great night’s sleep. The staff were warm and friendly from the moment we arrived. We had a wonderful stay at The Sage Hotel and would definitely recommend it in Santa Fe.
