Ocean Park Hotel

Some guests found the rooms more basic and smaller than expected, with older furniture and little storage. Air conditioning could be weak when it was warm, and noise carried through the walls, so sounds from nearby rooms or hallways sometimes disturbed people. Still, many visitors liked the clean, comfortable rooms and fresh, restful beds and linens. The location was often praised: public transit is easy to reach, and beaches, shops, and restaurants are nearby, while the area still feels quiet and peaceful. Free Wi-Fi and complimentary parking added to the value. Guests also described the staff as friendly, helpful, and accommodating, especially at check-in and when answering local questions. Some felt it was a good deal for a budget trip. For many, it suited a short stay or a trip where location and price mattered more than luxury, though some wanted more modern rooms and quieter surroundings.

The location is good, the WiFi worked, parking was very limited but manageable, and the staff were okay. Even so, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The place is rundown, and a strong foul smell stayed in our room the whole time, even though we left the windows open all day while we were out. The beds were small and uncomfortable, and the bedding wasn’t compliant. The room also had rundown windows. The bathroom situation was embarrassing and wrong on so many levels. I wouldn’t stay here even if somebody paid me.

We booked two nights at the start of our trip, then ended up adding two more. The staff were kind and helpful, the neighborhood felt safe, and parking was free. It’s close to the beach and the Big Blue Bus 8 stop. For the money, I think it’s the best value hotel in Santa Monica. There’s no AC, so the room could get hot when it’s around 90F outside. That’s the one downside. We highly recommend it and would stay again.

I had a pleasant stay and the hotel itself was good, but I left behind a pair of denim shorts in my room. When I got in touch, the hotel refused to return them. That was disappointing. Future guests should make sure they don’t forget anything, because the hotel won’t send belongings back.
