The grounds are lovely and spacious, with wooded paths that are easy to walk, and a shuttle into Saratoga Springs that runs quite late. There’s also a restaurant and bar with indoor and outdoor seating. A golf course, state park, bike rental, mineral baths, and outdoor performing arts venue are all within walking distance. I was here for a group function, and this was the host hotel. The stately building has a lot of charm. Our room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was small, but suited the era when the hotel was built. The elevator briefly stopped working, though a freight elevator was available. Staff and communication were first rate. We had a wonderful stay.

The staff don’t greet guests and come across as cold, which is disappointing. I’d like the hotel to bring back its old breakfast menu and make this historic, beautiful place feel comforting and restorative for visitors instead of disappointing. I can’t tell if it’s a coincidence, but whenever I book through expedia I seem to get an old, run-down room, usually Room 304? The bathtub doesn’t drain properly, and that’s happened four times now. This time I moved to the fourth floor, where I could hear everything from the next room. Honestly, it feels like things have gotten worse since the renovation.

Everyone who came to the shower raved about the Garden Room and the food, and I’ve had several lovely texts since. They made me the hero of the day. I can’t recommend the team enough, and they’ll definitely be my go-to from now on. The brunch was outstanding, and our server Anne was so kind and helpful. The Mimosa bar had lots of juice options, including N/A, plus fruit garnishes, so everyone could make a pretty drink their own way. They didn’t rush us, and even left the delicious desserts out while we played games and opened gifts. Working with the Gideon Putnam team to plan and host my daughter’s Bridal Shower this past weekend was such a pleasure. The Garden Room was just right, with a beautiful historic feel. From my first call, through viewing the room and sorting out menus and setup, right through the event yesterday, everything was smooth and professional.

The room was cramped and dated, and the shower backed up because it wouldn’t drain. We were also charged hidden fees. With service and the overall experience this disappointing, I wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially at this price. I was there with my service dog, and they put us in a room directly by the elevator. She was alerting all night. The staff weren’t helpful or accommodating.
