Maplewood Hotel

The place was very clean, and we enjoyed our stay, though it felt a bit pricey. The hotel is right in the middle of town, which made it easy to park and leave the car there instead of hunting for another spot. Parking is limited, so we felt lucky to get one. Breakfast was very good, and the staff were friendly. The front door code for after staff leave was easy to use and no trouble. Our room, 104, felt dated. The carpet was worn, the trim needed paint, and the windows were in disrepair and unusable. There was a jacuzzi, but I can’t imagine anyone using it. The TV was small, maybe 13 or 17 inches. We peeked into a few other rooms, and they looked more recently updated.

The hotel’s decor was great, with lots of antiques and little details, and there were always snacks and drinks set out. Our room was spacious, very clean, and just right, with a comfortable bed. The staff were all friendly, and breakfast was great every morning. Being right in the heart of everything made it easy to pop back to our room during the day to drop off shopping or rest. We had a great stay and would definitely come again.

Our group of six ranged in age from 10 to 80, and everyone enjoyed this lovely hotel. It was my first stay, but it’s now my go-to place and recommendation for anyone visiting Saugatuck. Everyone we dealt with, from booking through housekeeping, was kind, friendly, and helpful. The rooms were well equipped, the beds were comfy, and the bathrooms had a classic, luxurious feel. We also appreciated the check-in and check-out COVID policies, which made everything easy and efficient.

We stayed here in 2021, so things may have changed, but we were disappointed. Our suite was pretty crummy for the amount of money we paid. The room wasn’t very clean, the carpet was stained, and the old furniture, including the bed, was worn out. There was mildew in the shower. The oversized digital clock and TV with DVD player didn’t feel boutique. Maybe we got the worst room because we booked just a day ahead? The rest of the building was interesting, and the location was great. We didn’t stay for breakfast.
