We spent two nights in a lovely King bedroom overlooking the Esopus Creek, with a view that felt like it belonged in a movie. The room was thoughtfully arranged and a great place to unwind. From the moment we arrived, the calm setting and warm hospitality made our autumn getaway feel special. There are nice walks starting right at the hotel, including the 35-minute stroll to the Lighthouse. Saugerties is picturesque and an easy five-minute walk away. Black Barn, the on-site restaurant, was excellent, and the spa is a 15-minute walk. Guests can use its sauna, jacuzzi, cold plunge, and gym for free. Diamond Mills Hotel was a serene, memorable escape that exceeded our expectations. We’d definitely return.

The Keurig machine was a nice amenity, but it had no water in it. When I asked who was supposed to fill it, the front desk guy said the morning staff. Come on, hook it up to water or have someone check the level. It’s unacceptable at a place that isn’t cheap. I was at the hotel for my daughter’s wedding, and my room wasn’t turned over or cleaned. The towels weren’t changed, either. It was horrible, especially since I’m the mother of the bride and everyone knew it. The rooms are dated, though I did like the ambience. I was very disappointed.

The pillows were like stones, and the restaurant closed at 7 p.m. Although beer was listed on the room menu, they didn’t have any, so it was impossible to get one. The hotel is in a location where walking to a nearby bar is difficult, with dark streets. They advertise it as a “family friendly resort,” but when I arrived with my 13-year-old daughter, a very mean person at the spa, which is a mile or more from the hotel, told me she wasn’t allowed in. We tried calling the front desk many times and nobody answered. I don’t understand why they call this a resort. If I’d been closer to home, I would’ve left that night. I wish I’d read the bad reviews before reserving.

The location was one of the two main reasons I chose Diamond Mills for our son and his fiancée’s engagement dinner. Guests coming from the Lake George area could reach it without going too far from exit 20 on the New York State Thruway. We hosted the dinner in a private room at the on-site Blackbarn restaurant, not at the hotel. The other reason was that they’d served excellent vegan food for my vegan guests in the past. This time, the Vegan Mushroom Ragout was disgusting.

The waterfall is pretty, but we could barely see it from our room. Breakfast came on paper plates with plastic forks, and the hallways smelled like an old hotel or condo. The bedside lights were placed so badly that you have to get out of bed to turn them on or off. The two evening front desk staff weren’t much help, though the morning person was better. The weekend rate is so high, yet this felt like a low-budget interstate hotel, not the resort shown on the website. It needs serious upkeep. Save your money and don’t stay here.
