Our room was huge, with two queen beds and still space for an air mattress. The teenagers loved the giant TV, and we liked the really fluffy towels. The pipes knocked now and then, but otherwise we had no complaints and were content with our stay. A lot of guests seem to live here, and at first it felt a little like a seedy apartment complex. People smoked weed and cigarettes outside their rooms and socialized, but everyone seemed to settle in by 10 pm, and it got quiet. Our ground-floor room had been updated, was very clean and comfortable, and the staff were extremely friendly and did everything they could to make us comfortable. Management seems to be trying hard.

Room 23 was a lifesaver for my cousin and me during a week of traveling across the state for our real estate work. We’d been moving from hotel to hotel, and the owner and Melissa made us feel very welcome. They were attentive, too. The rooms are well laid out, have modern amenities, and the prices are amazing. I love the history of this place, and I’m excited to see what the new owner and management do with it. We’ve stayed at a lot of other places, and this one really is a gem among the rough.

The retro feel is great, and I love the sign, which is a national landmark for the UP. The price is great, too. Melissa, the house keeper, is amazing, and all the staff are kind and cool. The people staying there are friendly, and it’s within walking distance of all kinds of shopping.

I travel for work, and I’ll come back if I’m working 30 minutes away. The new owner is an awesome guy and is already making improvements, starting with the rooms. Don’t let the outside put you off. My room was clean and spacious, with two dressers and a comfortable king bed. The air conditioner was quiet and had an energy-saving mode. There was a big-screen TV with cable and other viewing options, plus a college-room-size fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. The bathroom was clean.

We used to stay here every time we came home to the Soo, and we’ll definitely be back. Our updated room had new carpet and a large flat-screen TV. It smelled nice and felt fresh, and the new beds were comfortable enough that we all slept well. The manager was welcoming and even walked us to our room while it was still being cleaned. The hotel is close to town, with plenty of good dining and shopping nearby.
