Sonder — Drayton Apartments

The location was the one thing I liked. We could walk everywhere from the room. I’d been excited about staying here, and at first the room looked impressive, but Saturday night in Savannah was extremely loud. Motorcycles roared up and down the street at all hours, and ordinary conversations below came through so clearly it seemed like the windows were open. They really need replacing and soundproofing. The couch was tiny and uncomfortable, with no pillows. Its window ledge sat right behind your head when seated, and I hit my head on it twice. The bathroom had no hooks or place to put clothes. It felt very bare bones. There was also a bulb in the rafters that couldn’t be switched off from inside the apartment. Staying there was frustrating.

It’s a busy street, especially on weekends, so bring the earplugs. The room was also much warmer than the AC setting suggested. We couldn’t check in early unless we paid extra, which was really disappointing. There wasn’t a loading or unloading area to drop our bags either.

The online photos looked charming and the location was exactly where we wanted to be, but our unit at Sonders Drayton was incredibly dirty. Dust had built up in layers on the lamps, headboard, baseboards, under the nightstands, and TV stand. A torn towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door looked like it had been left by the previous guests and missed by housekeeping. We messaged to request housekeeping. They said someone came while we were out, but nothing had changed when we returned. Another person was sent later, and all they did was sweep the floor. We received a small refund, but it didn’t come close to matching how filthy the place was.

Four days before check-in, they told us our dogs couldn’t be left alone in the room and had to stay with us at all times. We’d explained before booking that we had two ESA dogs and three guests, and they’d said everything was fine. We planned to leave the dogs crated while we explored, but that wasn’t allowed. One dog is a senior, and the other had just had major surgery and was taking sedatives, so bringing them everywhere wasn’t possible. We tried to cancel because we weren’t willing to board them, and boarding during a holiday weekend cost more than the Airbnb. They refused a refund, even though this policy hadn’t been posted anywhere or told to us. We had to dispute it through Airbnb, which agreed with us and issued a refund. Since it was last minute over a holiday weekend, we then had to book a more expensive Airbnb. We’d booked two months ahead for Savannah after telling them our plans. Calling this place pet friendly makes no sense; I’ve never heard of a pet-friendly hotel, Airbnb, or Vrbo with rules like these. They should just say no pets. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. UPDATE: To answer the owners’ comment, the pet policy wasn’t on the Airbnb listing or any other site where you advertised. You could have sent it when we told you we were bringing animals. If we’d known, we simply wouldn’t have booked and would have chosen a truly animal-friendly place. It still isn’t posted anywhere, lol. This is no way to treat guests. We could have had to cancel the whole trip. YALL ARE WACK AS HELL.
