Tempo By Hilton Savannah Historic District

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this new Hilton property earned its one star. The customer service felt indifferent, and the room was average at best. We also found several long hairs on the bath towels, which housekeeping should have caught. Their so-called eco policy was another frustration: they won’t provide or sell bottled water, yet they sell Coke, other sodas, beer, wine and champagne in plastic, glass and aluminum containers. The gift shop is full of plastic-wrapped junk food like gummy bears and chips, so the policy felt inconsistent and inconvenient. The valet setup was ridiculous too. Staff were inside instead of at the curb, so we had to park a long way off and drag all our bags through the lot and into the hotel after a long trip. There are better hotels in the area. We expected more from Hilton and wouldn’t recommend this place or return.

The rooftop is a highlight, with a nice view and high-end cocktails, and the location is good. The new rooms are modern and have kohler bathroom fixtures. But the AC was shockingly loud for a new hotel. At first I thought there was a truck revving outside our window. I also didn’t realize rooms are serviced only every other day. Is that how all Hilton hotels work? After a sweltering day, coming back to an unmade bed and wet towels was disappointing.

The location was the best part for me. You can grab coffee, breakfast or cocktails on site without having to go out, which is handy on a long stay or when you’re tired, even though Savannah is a city to explore. There’s a breakfast café off the lobby, plus a rooftop bar and lounge overlooking the city and river. I prepaid two days at Lincoln Street parking garage around the corner for $45 total, cheaper online than on arrival. Valet parking is $52 a day. The hotel is brand new and checks nearly all the boxes, though there’s no pool and the dumpster out front can bang in the morning. The rooms are nice, with a full-length mirror on the sliding bathroom door that I appreciated at 6'5. The bathroom mirror connects to Bluetooth speakers, and there are water bottle refill stations. The fitness room is a decent size and has a view. I’m a Hilton Honors member and have used the portfolio for years, so this is a long and thorough review.
