Motel 6 Schenectady, NY

They had my third-party booking confirmation and found the reservation right away, even though I never gave them my name. I stayed calm and asked for information and a solution, but the man spoke to me in a demeaning, aggressive tone. I even asked him why he was being so aggressive. I believe there’s video from the motel and a recording I made, so I guess that will come out in discovery. I arrived around 7:30 a.m. for a room booked for a work trip. I needed somewhere to rest and get out of the brutal cold, and mistakenly thought my confirmation meant I could get in. The staff told me I couldn’t access the room until 3 p.m. I asked about paying for early check-in, since the renter was willing to cover the extra fee, or about any other option. They responded with hostility and made me leave on foot, in clothes that weren’t warm enough for below-freezing weather, without money or a way to call a ride in an unfamiliar area. I wasn’t a threat. I was trying to find a solution, and there was no reason to send me out without a clear or safe option. I had to walk to the nearest place where I could get warm. Now I’m showing signs of hypothermia and frostbite and waiting for a ride to urgent care. Depending on what happens at the medical visit, I’ll be seeking legal action. Their decisions have caused me suffering, and the lack of compassion was matched by a sense that they felt entitled to treat me that way. I hope this location is an exception within the Hotel 6 organization. I wouldn’t want anyone else to go through the painful experience I did. The walls between hospitality and inhospitable behavior seem pretty clear to me. Maybe this team chose the wrong line of work. I’ll urge people I care about to avoid Motel 6 after seeing how they treat customers. A warm bed and shower turned into a freezing, painful experience because nobody wanted to take the time to look for a solution. Sending someone into the cold unprepared and needlessly felt like an assault. I’ve paid for their ignorance, and I won’t forgive them as they showed me no forgiveness. I didn’t raise my voice or use vulgar language, though I found it hard to keep my temper when the man immediately spoke down to me. I believe management was dishonest as well as distasteful. I showed the original booking confirmation and did not act aggressively. I’d like the video and my recording to speak for themselves.
