Red Roof Inn & Suites Scottsboro

We’d expected this Red Roof to be like the clean, nice one in our hometown. This place looked older, and the musty, moldy smell hit as soon as we walked into the room. Within ten minutes my eyes were burning and my allergies were acting up. It looked clean at first, but there was a cockroach on the wall by the bed. As the night went on, we noticed black dirt on the floor, cigarette burns on both bed covers, dead ladybug-like bugs on the air conditioner, and a large palmetto bug in the tub. There was also a squashed roach in the cover at the foot of the bed the next morning, and another roach on the shower curtain when I was showering. The TV was off but still giving off light. I tried covering it with a towel, but the towel was so thin the light showed through. I went to the front desk, upset, and told the person I assumed was the owner about everything. He had no uniform or name tag and didn’t apologize, just asked if we wanted to change rooms. The next room seemed cleaner and we saw no bugs, but the tub faucet wasn’t attached to the wall and the AC sounded like a helicopter taking off. We had to stay because money was tight, but even on a budget you shouldn’t have to worry about bringing bugs home. The room and the staff or owners’ lack of concern made me rethink Red Roof.
