Sonesta Select Scottsdale at Mayo Clinic Campus

The hall carpets were dirty, with hair clumps and debris, and the room floors were gross. The online pictures give a misleading impression. If you're going to the Mayo clinic, I'd avoid this place until they get things together. There wasn't much to eat, the coffee was disgusting and moldy, and you have to wait until 7 a.m. to buy overpriced microwave food. Evening staffing was thin, and there was no security at all. I spent nearly an hour listening to staff complain about guests and management, then got treated like a nuisance when I interrupted.

The room itself was clean and comfortable, except the sheets felt stiff and rough. The location is great if you're visiting the Mayo Clinic, but we barely slept because of the noise. Our room was beside an entry door that slammed all night, and we heard every step and floor squeak from the heavy walkers above us. People also used the hallway outside our room as an office, talking on the phone for long stretches. We could even hear the person on the other end.

The owner replied to my review, so I want to point people to the hotel's Yelp page. It has awful reviews that all point to management not helping, and that seems to be the standard here. After we left, they added extra charges to my card. I can only assume there's an extra fee for wanting sheets without blood on them and towels without brown stains. There was blood all over our sheets. After a half apology, the hotel only let us change rooms when we insisted. They claimed housekeepers often cut themselves and bleed everywhere, which makes it sound like they repeatedly fail to change the sheets. Dirty towels were left all over the hall floors, and complaints don't seem to get resolved. Don't stay here. The place is disgusting.

The rooms were clean and had a mini fridge and microwave, but our shower was broken. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Being on the Mayo clinic campus is a real plus, although the hotel is a bit out of the way for convenience stores and restaurants. If you have your own car, they're only a 10-minute drive away. I'd definitely stay again.
