Bacon Mansion Bed & Breakfast

There are spacious rooms, and a few relaxing rooms with a grand piano if you play. Each morning, coffee and tea are waiting just outside your door, and breakfast includes delicious baked muffins, fruit, and more. The mansion is a beautiful home over 100 years old, lovingly cared for and set in a great spot in Capital Hill. The fall foliage frames lovely western views, and there's a nice outdoor patio for pleasant afternoons. Darryl is a wonderful host, and we really appreciate his hospitality. We'll definitely be back for another relaxing stay.

It really does feel like home, only nicer. Cecil Bacon Manor, its new name since it was sold to new owners, has a lovely mix of ornate old wood and Gilded Age charm with today's amenities and wonderful service. The owners are super nice and attentive to every guest. It's in a quiet, pleasant neighborhood on Capitol Hill, just minutes from downtown by car or bus.

Breakfast was the main reason for my low rating. It was coffee or juice, a bowl of fruit, yogurt, and a muffin. Nothing was bad, and the service was friendly, but I expect more from a B & B than a continental breakfast. For less money I could have stayed in a hotel with nearly the same breakfast, a bigger room, and a private bathroom. I was only there for one night. The house is cool, but my cabin room was tiny. You have to bend to get through the door, and the slanted walls are easy to hit your head on. Keep that in mind if more than one person is staying. It was small even for just me. The bed was pretty firm and not especially comfortable, though that could come down to preference. The shared bathroom, as specified, was clean and stocked. But its door handle was hanging loose and the lock was just a cheap hook. Pretty tacky.

Little details made this a favorite for me. There were hot drinks and cookies in the house, and the coffee maker in our room was already set up for the morning, so all we had to do was press a button. Outside, there's a lovely private garden and fountain seating area. Breakfast was healthy, and the conversation that morning was pleasant. Our room, the carriage loft, was in the carriage house. It was roomy and clean, with a great heater, a very comfortable bed, and a good-sized bathroom. The shower pressure was amazing. You can tell Darrell, the owner, really cares about the property. This gem tucked into Seattle has a lot of character. It was less expensive than a downtown hotel or air b&b and much more memorable. We had a pleasant short stay and would definitely recommend it.
