The Grove West Seattle Inn

On my first visit, I told the hotel I work nights and sleep during the day, but they put me below a room under construction and never warned me about the work. I got no sleep, and it ruined the trip. They comped that night's charge, and the place was clean, so I thought I'd try again. This time, after my plans kept falling apart, I added a night hoping to salvage the trip. I told the front desk I sleep days and asked them to make sure nobody knocked and housekeeping skipped my room. They said they'd leave me alone. I went to bed at 8 a.m., planning to get up at 2 for an activity. Between 8:30 and noon, someone knocked four times: housekeeping three times, then the front desk. The person pounded on the door and opened it while I was naked in bed. Luckily, something behind the door stopped it from opening all the way. They said I had to check out. I explained that I'd extended the night before, and they shut the door and left. I got no sleep again and missed my activity. If a guest has explained that they sleep during the day and asked not to be disturbed, the staff should respect that. The cleanliness is the only reason this gets more than one star. Also, the parking lot is tiny. From the lot I used, there was no ramp up to the hotel walkway. Arrive late and there may be no space, leaving street parking, possibly a walk away.

The bed was comfortable, and the place was very clean. Some furniture looked shabby and could use replacing. There wasn't a nightstand or lamp on one side of the bed. We skipped the free breakfast.

This used to be my go-to hotel for years, and I thought it was great. I still like the rooms, but the neighborhood has gone downhill. I spent the night hearing homeless people yelling and talking nonsense, and got only three hours of sleep. I'm not coming back.

For three days, this inn worked out perfectly, even though it's only a two-star hotel. The rooms were clean and well maintained, and everyone I spoke to was kind and friendly. Breakfast was probably the best part: there were bagels, pastries, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, coffee, orange juice, and milk. The employee who kept everything clean and stocked was a gem and made each morning better.
