The change to a cottage made the trip for us. We’d booked a room in the main lodge, right by a wedding reception tent, but the two people at the front desk moved us to a cottage away from the event at no extra cost when I worried about loud music. They were incredibly helpful. We got there at noon and were allowed to check in early, too. The restaurant staff were terrific, and dinner was well prepared and delicious, with good portions and prices lower than we expected. They were also fine with our young daughter walking around while we ate. I was there with my husband, our 14-month-old daughter, our dog, and I’m pregnant. The cottage worked well for all of us. We walked around the beautiful grounds above Sebasco Harbor, and the clean pool was a highlight, though there weren’t any towels available at the time. Our dog had lots of space to run and swim away from other guests. It was a lovely way to spend time as a young family. If you want a rustic Maine resort, this is the place. Thanks, Sebasco!

The oceanfront setting is gorgeous, and the heated pool looks right out over the water. There’s also a nice 9-hole golf course. I came for a wedding, and the venue was lovely; the buffet food was good. I enjoyed the visit, but for $300 a night I left wanting more. Maybe the service suffered because we were there in late September after some seasonal staff had left. Many staff members could use more hospitality training. We spent two nights with our two young kids. At the restaurant overlooking the water, seven tables were open when we arrived at 5:30pm, but we were told the kitchen was backed up and waited about 45 minutes to be seated. The food was good, though the host and wait staff seemed defensive and rude. Our family room in the Main Lodge had a fairly new queen bed, but the twin beds were old and sagging, and I woke with a very stiff back. The toilet was clearly 25+ years old, low and small, and difficult to use. They should replace it and the old mattresses soon. The shower and sink worked fine, the newer dressers were nice, and the very old bathroom floor was in fine condition. Breakfast was $22pp and felt like a basic continental spread. There was no server or drinking water. When a couple came in by the back steps, the host told them it wasn’t an entrance instead of welcoming them. At least kids under 5 ate free. The fitness center itself was fine, with new exercise bikes and weights, but its bathroom was in rough shape. The stick-on tiles and floor felt bouncy, as though a lot of water was trapped underneath, and the showers looked unusable, with visible mold and lots of chipped paint. I tried to get coffee at the gift shop at 11:05am, but it was closed until 3pm. There’s nowhere else on the property to get coffee to go. They should stay open, at least on weekends.

The people I most enjoyed dealing with were the restaurant servers. They were friendly, engaging, and lovely. The pool was also lovely and well maintained, and the lobster bake was well run with great food. Our cottage, Shore Ledges Cottage, had amazing views and a beautiful screened porch, though it was a little run down. The bikes were a fun perk and we used them, but most were extremely worn down, with handlebar grips rubbed off and sticky, dirty bars. This was our first visit to Sebasco Harbor resort. A few weeks before our booking, I called with general questions, but the person who answered didn’t know the resort well. I was transferred to someone I think was a manager, who was pleasant and helpful. It was off-putting that the person answering the phone couldn’t handle basic questions. The welcome email two days before arrival listed an indoor pool among the hotel amenities, but there isn’t one. At check-in, when I pointed that out, the person just shrugged and said they didn’t have an indoor pool. Check-in itself went smoothly, though it took several tries to get enough working keys. The activity list we received differed from the one emailed on May 5th; when I asked, I was told, “yeah it changed”. The older cabin has no AC, which we knew when booking, but many windows couldn’t be opened because the bent screens didn’t fit their frames and the house would fill with bugs. We called the front desk, who said they’d report it to maintenance, but nobody came to fix them. The Monday 1pm ice cream making activity was canceled when we got there, with no explanation. The venue has an ice cream shop, so most people ended up in line buying ice cream for disappointed children. Fishing was the only activity that was run well. The instructor knew the area and was great, but there were fishing poles and no bait. The arcade was fun for the kids, though it wasn’t always open when the schedule said it would be. I also tried several times to reach the GM during our stay and was always told he wasn’t in. When I left, I gave my phone number and asked him to call because I’d rather discuss issues than post a bad review. I never heard from him, which told me a lot about management at Sebasco Harbor Resort. The place could be beautiful, and our cottage would have been a great stay aside from the broken screens. As advertised, though, I don’t think it works as a family resort with all those activities. If they fulfilled what they promote and staffed properly, it would be unbeatable. I got the impression they focus on golfers and weddings, while the rest of the offerings are on the roster because they feel they have to be, without much effort to provide them.

We’re getting married here next August and came up for a quick weekend. I got to look around a lot of the rooms, and they were all spacious and clean. The grounds are well kept, and everyone on staff was kind and accommodating. Such a relaxing, family-friendly place for a vacation.

The grounds are beautiful, but our stay was horrific. We weren’t told that a wedding would mean we couldn’t use the pool or several parts of the grounds. We planned our day around the posted pool hours of 10am-8pm, and if I’d known the pool and lawn games wouldn’t be available for even a few hours, I wouldn’t have booked. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels that host weddings, and none barred me from common areas included in the price and resort fees. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend staying at the Sebasco. Spend your money elsewhere. The rooms were outdated, dirty, and smelled weird. There was a huge hole in the balcony screen, so we had to keep the door shut. At check-in, we didn’t get the complimentary beverage, and the bottle of wine I paid for wasn’t ready. The breakfast buffet was terrible, like a free Holiday Inn continental breakfast, but it cost $22 per person before tip.
