Spark by Hilton Kodak

The price was great, and the location was handy, though our room faced the main road and traffic was loud. We had a spacious, very clean room that looked recently updated. The old wall AC and heat unit was a bit beat up and didn't work great, but it did work. We'd stay again.

This is a mildly renovated Days Inn, and the road noise at night is awful, especially on the Parkway side. We found bedbugs in our room around 2 a.m. at the end of December. Reception moved us and said we'd need to talk to the manager in the morning about a refund. The manager said he'd been anticipating the conversation, then dismissed our geotagged, time-stamped photos and videos as possibly taken anywhere. This was the first hotel room on our trip, and we don't have bedbugs at home. He said the owner would inspect the room and contact us if bugs were found, which didn't sound impartial. When my fiancé asked at a normal volume whether this meant they don't refund for bedbugs, the manager yelled at him to lower his voice and said he was being rude in his lobby. My fiancé wasn't yelling. He realized there'd be no help, handed over the keys, and left. The manager followed us into the parking lot, yelled at my fiancé, and insulted his appearance before going back inside. We were appalled and left right away. We planned to contact Hilton instead, but still haven't heard back. Later, management emailed that no bedbugs were found and there'd be no refund. We expected that. I'll post the photos of the bugs. The room was either 302 or 306, and the Kodak timestamp was 2:11 a.m. The road noise in the pictures and videos also makes it clear they're from that hotel. Don't stay here. Bedbugs and terrible management.

I've stayed with Hilton hotels all over and I'm a Hilton Honors Club member, but this was by far the worst one I've experienced. I asked about an extra $100 charge on my card, and Chris, the associate there, yelled and told me to leave if I didn't like the fee. That was completely unacceptable. The front desk woman was very nice, but wouldn't give me the manager's business card, only his name, “Patel.” They say the hotel was recently remodeled, but it doesn't resemble the Hiltons I usually stay at. The road noise alone kept me awake all night. With the price and such awful customer service, I can't recommend it. When I travel to Kodak, I'll stay at the Hampton Inn. I'd suggest others do the same so their trip isn't spoiled.

The room was very clean when we arrived, and the beds were okay. I liked that the sink was separate from the tiny toilet and shower area, which had plenty of towels, soap, and toilet paper. The tile floors stayed cold all night and into the next day during our January visit, so next time I'd bring slippers or thick socks. Breakfast had muffins, bagels, and juice. We took some with us, though the juice cups were so small you only got about three sips. I stopped at Spark by Hilton late at night while traveling, too tired to drive the remaining four hours. My family and I have stayed at Hilton properties, and as a Hilton Honors member I chose this place for a few hours of sleep. It was right off the interstate, which worked well for a one-night stop. I only noticed after walking back to the car that room entrances were outside, which I don't prefer, but we'd already checked in. The front desk attendant was neither rude nor friendly, and spoke so softly I had to ask him to repeat things. He gave us the rate and room assignment, but didn't thank me, mention Hilton Honors until I asked, or explain breakfast. The woman at checkout was similar. She checked me out and said she couldn't print a receipt, without asking how our stay was. Both people seemed like they didn't want to be there. I'd stay again if needed, but wouldn't choose it for a vacation.
