The kitchen was a highlight: it’s spacious and set up like a professional chef’s kitchen. We bought king crab legs from the fish processing store and steamed them ourselves. The dining room has four tables and was a nice place to spend time, and breakfast was deliciously cooked in the morning. From outside, the building looks like a block, and check-in is self-service, but inside our one-night stay was very pleasant. The room is small, cozy, and efficiently arranged. For the price, we were very satisfied.

Breakfast is cooked to order, and the staff are friendly and helpful with local attractions, experiences, and booking excursions. There are plenty of shared spaces, and the whole place feels safe and homey. It’s a fabulous B&B, just as advertised, with a hostel-like feel that we enjoy. The rooms are small but thoughtfully laid out, with lots of storage.

A cute, welcoming place with a homey feel and a great breakfast. I had a good stay overall. My one complaint is the bed: it squeaked and felt a little too firm for me.

For what we paid, the stay earned my top rating, even though I debated between four and five stars. Staff communicated well before we arrived, the location was excellent for the price, and both the rooms and bathrooms were clean. The hot breakfast was tasty and prepared personally in the morning. A couple things could be better. Hot water may run short when several guests shower around the same time, especially in the morning. Our room had plenty of outlets, but about half felt so loose that we avoided using them in case plugs fell out or partly slipped free and became a spark or fire risk. The outlets we did use were secure.

Seward seems more expensive than the five other towns and cities we’ve visited so far. At this place, the room felt cramped: its window faced a wall about 10 inches away, so there was a painted picture on that wall. The bathroom window looked across a narrow gap at other dwellings, so we kept the blind shut. That left things feeling a bit claustrophobic. Shared spaces include a dining room and an office/TV area, where the seating is long, narrow, unpadded wooden benches along two walls. The dining area opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m., so early risers can’t get coffee before 7.
