Hampton Inn Selinsgrove/Shamokin Dam

We were moving from Boston to Texas over the Xmas holidays and bringing our animals along, so the pet-friendly policy was a big help. We had three dogs and had to book two adjoining rooms to get around the limit of two pets per room. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. As a long-time member of the International Hotel Group (IHG) and a Hilton Brands member, I was pleasantly surprised by this Hampton Inn, listed as a 3 ☆☆☆ hotel. The rooms were very clean and the beds more comfortable than I expected. My location rating loses a star because the driveway is a strange left turn off the main road. The roadside sign needs fixing: it wasn't lit and was hidden behind another sign as big as a Times Square billboard. If you aren't paying attention, it's easy to miss the driveway, and the hotel sits back from the road. Otherwise, a great hotel for the money, and the staff were great too.

The staff were really friendly, but our room was in rough shape and wasn't clean like the other comments said. Maybe we just got a bad one. The walls were thin enough that we heard everything from upstairs and next door, even flushing and showers, and there was plenty of other noise too. The drawers were broken and kept sliding open. The fridge made noises, the AC rattled strangely from time to time, and there was a rumble at one point. In the middle of the night, the room smelled strongly of sewage, like there might be a leaky pipe. Maybe it was haunted, haha.

It's handily situated between Selinsgrove, Sunbury, and Northumberland, and the staff were great. The hotel itself was excellent. The downside is that the hot tub has been out of order for over three years.

It sits back from the road, so getting there felt a little awkward. For a moment, we thought we were heading into a residential neighborhood. Still, we'd stay again next time we're in the area. Check-in staff were very clean and friendly and helpful, and breakfast was beautifully laid out with lots of choices for everyone.
