Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Kansas City Shawnee

For a Marriott, this was the worst one I've stayed at, and I'm annoyed I spent my free night and points here. The lobby smelled like weed throughout our stay. Rooms were just okay, the beds weren't comfortable, and the shower looked a little run down. They also didn't leave us any washcloths. Slightly above average at best.

The pool being closed was a disappointment, especially since no one mentioned it when we booked and we travel with kids for tournaments, so we look for a pool. Also, breakfast started late one morning and held us up when we needed an early start. Apart from those issues, the clean hotel and rooms were as expected, and everything else was as advertised.

There's no hot water, water damage all over, and none of the TVs work. The regional manager knows these things are broken. Breakfast is a joke, too. Marriott should be embarrassed, and I'd stay somewhere else. The pool has been shut for a year after a health inspection found chlorine and pH too high. Change the water! If you want to swim, you can use the Comfort Inn next door. That agreement should tell you something. Do better.

The pool had been out of order for a while, and we only found out after checking in when I asked where it was. We were there in summer, and the kids had been counting on swimming. I had checked that it was listed as an amenity when I booked. Otherwise, the stay was good: a quiet, clean, fairly spacious room, a breakfast area that was kept tidy and stocked with plenty of hot and cold choices, and friendly staff who were ready to help.
