La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Sherman

The location was hard to beat. It's in a very safe area, close to plenty of food and other necessities, and easy to get in and out of if you're on a long drive. The building is old and shows its age, with dated features and some visible old repairs, though it seems to have had some updates and may get more. On the second night, water backed up in the shower and bathroom sink. We told the desk, and they moved us to another room promptly, which we appreciated. The staff were trained and eager to help. Breakfast is basic, but the waffles were better than at many hotels. Ice machines were clean and working. Housekeeping could be more thorough. The bathroom didn't look dirty, but the toilet seat hadn't been cleaned and the floor hadn't been mopped recently. The rest of the room was clean, and the beds and linens were very clean, with a faint bleach smell that reassured me as someone who often worries hotels may not change the sheets. All in all, we had a pleasant stay.

For the price, it was an okay place to stay compared with other hotel reviews. Check-in was simple, the room had plenty of space, and the bed was comfortable. They also left little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap. There was a visible stain on the bed, though I checked carefully and didn't find any sign of bed bugs. A hole in the bathroom wall and a strong weed smell in the hallway, which seeped into our room, were other issues. Breakfast came with the stay, but the eggs, sausage, and potatoes were bland and cold, and the pancake batter was too runny. Since it was complimentary, I can't complain too much.

The room was great for getting a little remote work done, and a first-floor room facing the pool is a lot like a cabana at the Zaza Hotels. The pool was spotless and kept up beautifully, with little chlorine smell, and it's a nice style for photos. Inside, the room smelled like nothing at all, which I loved. The LED mirrors and decor were updated and chic. The staff were all efficient, just like the manager. The outside was bright as daytime at night, and there weren't any odd side doors left unlocked. The gym was clean, had no smells, and had towels, cold water for refills, and nice equipment. The snack bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. It was quiet, too. A really good weekend getaway setup.

Getting to the location was easy, and check-in and checkout were a breeze. The staff were friendly, professional, and accommodating. Breakfast and coffee were hot and good, and the market was handy even though we didn't need anything from it. We'd stay here again.
