Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump

The service was outstanding, but some of the amenities I came for were hard to enjoy. The pool was crowded with more than seven children and no adults in the water. It’s not large enough for that many kids and adults, and their jumping and splashing meant I couldn’t relax or swim peacefully. Someone stayed in the hot tub from 6 PM until closing. The sign says children under 14 need an adult, but I didn’t see enough adults with the children. I’d booked the hotel for the pool and spa, and unfortunately couldn’t use the pool. I also wanted the gym, but teens around 14-16 occupied it the whole time. I think adult swim hours, perhaps 6-8 AM and 9-10 PM or 8-10 PM, would help. The hotel could also set policies about kids and teens playing in the lobby, especially in the evening. Kids can eat with their parents at the restaurant, but they shouldn’t be playing ball in the lobby. Staff may find it easier to address this if there were clear rules. This could be the first adult Hilton, and those policies might bring in even more customers. It’s one of the cleanest, most professional, upscale Hilton hotels I’ve visited. There’s spa service that needs to be booked in advance, walkable restaurants, a local ice cream shop, and an on-site bar and restaurant if you don’t want to go out. Parking was hard to find, and I’m not sure where people go when there are no spaces. I drove three hours for a room I could have found closer to home and a spa I could have used elsewhere. There were real drawbacks despite the outstanding service.

The bed had hair in it, and the room smelled bad. When they asked about my stay, I told the manager, who was condescending and tried to belittle me. On top of that, they charged me almost $500 twice, then said my bank would have to release it or that it might fall off after a few days. Why charge me twice in the first place? The management and team’s values and the quality of the place seem gone. Check your bank or card statement to make sure this hasn’t happened to you. This used to be a reputable place, but not anymore.

The location is hard to beat. Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump sits right by Short Pump Town Center, so shopping, restaurants, and other needs are close, but the hotel itself stayed quiet and uncrowded. Inside, the lobby felt spacious and welcoming, and the property was clean, modern, and well kept, with a luxury feel. Staff throughout were friendly, attentive, and helpful. My room was spotless and comfortable, with a great bed and plenty of space to relax or work. The spa was a nice addition, and the indoor pool and fitness center were clean and enjoyable. A great choice for business or leisure, and highly recommended.

Restaurants and Shortpump Town Center are within walking distance, and the hotel has its own full-service restaurant and bar. It’s a beautiful, fairly new conference hotel, with an indoor pool and hot tub, a 24-hour fitness center, plus a coffee shop selling food and gifts. After all, it’s a Hilton, one of the best chains from city to city.
