The guard's approach left a terrible first impression. We were considering Home2 Suites by Hilton Short Pump for a family member during a home renovation and briefly went to a higher floor to see the property, since online photos can be misleading. The elevators had no keycard restriction, and it was a weekday when the hotel was nearly empty, so we didn't think we were disrupting anyone. A security guard confronted us aggressively and immediately questioned whether we were guests. Even after we calmly explained, he ordered us to leave or he'd call the police. We weren't doing anything inappropriate, disruptive, or suspicious, and the hotel's cameras could confirm that. He escalated the situation without professionalism or courtesy, and had no visible ID, only a radio, which raises concerns about accountability and legitimacy. Treating potential customers this way over simply viewing the property shows poor judgment. We won't consider this location.

I have never posted a review before, but I felt I had to after what happened to my mom and me. We had just moved to Richmond after a year in DC. She was excited to start over in a city she hadn't lived in for over 30 years. We had coffee shops and places to explore planned, along with new jobs starting. It should have been a happy time. Instead, less than a day after check-in, everything unraveled. At breakfast, the only meat was labeled chicken sausage. My mom avoids pork for medical reasons, so she trusted the label. I came down later and tasted mine. It didn't seem like chicken, and I told her so, though I hoped I was wrong since she'd already eaten it. A staff member casually confirmed it was pork and quietly took away the sign. Within hours, Mom was in pain and couldn't walk normally. Our whole week was thrown off. We couldn't tour apartments, she missed her first workday, and we missed Thanksgiving with family in DC. I stayed in the room with her so she wouldn't be alone. The hotel now seems to be saying it wasn't their fault and that she should have asked. Why should anyone have to question a food label? What if it had claimed vegan, halal, or nut-free and wasn't? My older sister has been vegan for almost 20 years, my dad's family is Muslim, and a friend has a serious peanut allergy. Mislabeling food is not a small mistake. Mom has managed her condition responsibly for years, and it's infuriating to see them act as if this was on her. She chose Hilton over cheaper extended-stay places because she expected a certain standard, then pork was mislabeled as chicken on the first morning. The managers have been dismissive instead of taking responsibility. This wrecked nearly two weeks of both our lives and overshadowed what should have been an exciting start. I won't stay at a Hilton again, not because of the mistake alone, but because of how they treated my mom afterward.

The pillows weren't to our taste, but that's an easy fix: bring your own. Otherwise, we'd happily stay again and recommend it for the Henrico/Richmond area. The hotel was clean, quiet, comfortable, and in a safe, convenient spot, with good restaurants and shopping nearby. Downtown Richmond was at most a quick 20-minute drive. Breakfast was plentiful and better than most comparable hotel breakfasts. We especially liked the walk-in shower, and the room and bathroom were exceptionally clean and well kept.

We use this hotel whenever we visit family in Richmond. It's new, clean, reasonably priced, and in a great spot just outside Short Pump mall. The staff are attentive and friendly.

The on-duty staff were consistently friendly and professional. The General Managers, though, were dismissive, slow to reply, and often didn't respond at all. After the mislabeled food led to a medical flare-up, missed work, medical travel costs, and a longer stay caused by the mistake, their offer was one free night or Hilton Honors points. I declined, and it remains unresolved. I had relocated to the Richmond area and instead of settling in, touring apartments, and starting my new job smoothly, I spent days in pain, on medication, canceling plans including Thanksgiving, and traveling back to Washington, DC for same-day care at my own expense. The round trip train ride took 5hrs, plus 3hrs in Urgent Care. On my first morning, I took pork from the buffet because it was incorrectly labeled as chicken. My daughter later questioned the taste, and the breakfast staff member confirmed it was pork. Anyone with medical or religious food restrictions should be cautious here. If I'd booked elsewhere, I'd probably be enjoying my new home state instead of spending two weeks dealing with preventable harm and unanswered emails. Accuracy and accountability matter, and I experienced neither.
