The villa itself was clean, updated, and very nice, with upgraded appliances and bathrooms. Island House Beach Resort V9 is in a great location, about a five minute walk from the beach. It’s a gated community with laundry on site. We were there during a cold snap, but the beach was still beautiful and great for small kids. Bring your own beach towels, though, since none are provided. The property management experience was disappointing. At check-in, the woman who “greeted” me was not welcoming and quickly pointed out that check-in wasn’t until 4pm. We’d arrived early, but I wasn’t expecting to enter the villa before it was ready. She also wouldn’t keep our bags somewhere secure. There were no paper towels in the villa. When my husband asked at the front desk, they said they don’t provide them, though they did give him a roll. On our second or third day, we asked for more kitchen garbage bags and were told the two supplied were just to get us started. There’s no Kleenex either. Those cost-cutting choices seem silly when the villa is $500 a night. I could understand it for a monthly rental, but we were there four nights. It feels like guests have to buy large quantities of paper and plastic goods so the company can save a few bucks. The women at the front office were rude every time we made a simple request, and when I handed over the keys at checkout, they didn’t even ask how the stay went. Not a good experience dealing with guests. By the way, I couldn’t post this on VRBO because they labeled it “misinformation.”

We’ve been coming to Island House for 10 years and always enjoy it. We usually stay in Villa 23, which is perfect for us. The villas took a beating from the hurricane, so we couldn’t stay here last year. It was good to return and see the updates. Karen, the new property manager, Corby, the reservation specialist, and Juan, the head of maintenance, have all been wonderful to us. They’ve worked really hard to restore and improve the property.

The Island House has a wonderful beachfront location and easy access to the water. Free chairs are provided, but you have to haul them out yourself each morning, and a crew takes them back in before you can enjoy the evening sunset. Such a bummer! The property’s upkeep left a bad impression. Dead grasses in the planters at the front office were our first sight, and the grass and weeds around the villas looked bad as we drove in. That inattention showed up inside too: dead cockroaches in the condo and mouse droppings in the kitchen closet. We know bugs and pests can be an issue, but housekeeping should have checked that space on arrival day. The condo was neat, but it didn’t feel clean or fresh. Several bulbs were burnt out, the ceiling fans rattled, and the AC didn’t cool the second bedroom. It felt like management wasn’t keeping an eye on things. We still had a wonderful vacation, but the quality and service left a negative impression, which is reflected in this review.

It was a very pleasant stay. The place was very clean, the front desk was always helpful, and maintenance did a great job keeping things clean and working.
