Belva Deer Inn

The bed creaked whenever you sat on it, and the breakfast bar in the morning was a joke. Our room rate was about 25% higher than on previous stays, and the new owner didn't honor the reservation we made last summer. Then there was an unexplained charge on the card I used for the new reservation. My wife's card had already been charged for our entire stay when we checked in. When I called, an employee asked me to send copies of the receipts so she could pass them to the owner. A month later, neither the hotel nor the owner has contacted me about the billing error. Is this customer service? Is this how a new operation should start?

The breakfast could have been better, though it wasn't terrible, and construction noise woke me up. They're renovating right now, but it's still a nice place, and the room was very nice with a reasonably comfortable bed. I stopped there unexpectedly last night because of bad weather. The woman working this morning was friendly and informative. I'll use this place again if I need to stop in an emergency, and hopefully the work will be finished by then. I do recommend it. Great job, guys!

We won't stay here again. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, and the springs made noise. At checkout I asked for a receipt, but the woman couldn't print one, so I only got the room rate before tax. My reservation showed $108.19 with tax, but she charged me $110.77. My companion left her personal pillow with a silk pillowcase behind. She called right away to say we'd come back for it after attending a funeral. The woman warned us we'd be charged for another night if we left a suitcase in the room, even though we had said it was a personal pillow. She eventually seemed to understand and said she'd leave it at the front desk. When we returned, it was on her chair and she was using it. She didn't seem to remember the call, and we had to tell her to give the pillow back. She looked unclean and unkempt, so that pillowcase definitely needs washing before use. We'll drive an extra 20-30 minutes to stay somewhere else.

Wish I could give it 0/5. We had an awful family experience. While checking the room for bed bugs, my 5 year old daughter pulled back the sheets and found a used bong. She brought it to me and asked what it was. I threw it on the bed and left the room. The service desk sent someone up, and she gave us another room. Later, the manager told my husband she knew the people who had stayed in that room and was friends with the housekeeper, and didn't believe they could have used that stuff. The next morning I asked for the owners to call me so I could make sure this was reported and not swept under the rug. After waiting all day, I called the hotel to ask when they would contact me. I realized I was speaking to the same manager from the night before. The conversation went badly. She said that after talking with housekeeping, there was no way it had happened as I described, and blamed my 5 year old for bringing a bong into the hotel. I don't recommend this hotel to anyone!
