Painted Sky Inn

The lack of communication was really frustrating. After driving four hours, we found out there was no access to the lake because of debris from recent flooding. I’d texted the owner before arriving to ask if there was anything specific we should stop to pick up, but this wasn’t mentioned. We ended up confined to our room with limited WiFi. When I spoke with the owner, she said she wouldn’t enter the lake from her property in its current condition. I asked why she’d expect me to.

Sunrise with coffee was peaceful, and sunset with a beer was spectacular. The lake was low, but bluebonnets filled the area where the water usually is, and the fishing was good. We rented all the rooms and campsites for four nights with 40 family members and friends. Everyone seemed happy we’d chosen Painted Sky. There were lots of places to hang out together, from the deck and grill area to the campsites, grassy patch, and lakeside. People played guitar and sang at the campsites, played corn hole on the grass, and paddled on the lake. It worked well for gathering, cocktails, play, fishing, and conversation. The peninsula location and gate also made it feel private and cozy. The rooms were clean, with cement floors that avoided the musty smell I’ve noticed at some other places around Lake Buchanan. Having a bathroom and kitchen in every room was handy. The employees, especially Erica, were responsive and helpful, and Josh was easy to work with. I’d highly recommend Painted Sky.

Deer were all around the peaceful surroundings, which added a lot to the charm. My husband and I had a lovely weekend at Painted Sky. It was cozy, very clean, and wonderfully quiet.

The vintage airstream camper was adorable, and I loved staying in it. It can get a bit warm during the day, but that’s Texas summers, and it wasn’t too bad. When I had an issue kinda late at night, I texted the owners and they replied quickly, getting it sorted out fast. Parking is limited, though they let you know ahead of time. The lake is right there, and there’s plenty of wildlife to see.
