The one bright spot was the manager at the front desk. I had to leave early because of a family emergency in my home state, and she was sweet, understanding, and compassionate when I explained. She made it easy and offered a full refund without hesitation. I’m grateful for how she treated me during a stressful moment. The rest of my stay at WoodSpring Suites in Simpsonville, South Carolina, was a very different story. The smell of marijuana was strong in the parking lot and continued through the halls at every time of day. In the room, lemon cleaner seemed to be covering up an odor of neglect. I found mouse droppings in the cabinet corners, several dead cockroaches in the cabinetry, and makeup stains on the pillowcases that weren’t mine. It felt like the room had been wiped down for show instead of properly cleaned. The place also felt more like extended-stay apartments or Section 8 style housing than a hotel for travelers. Many people seemed to live there long-term. That isn’t itself a problem, but it seemed to explain the noise, smells, and feeling that passing guests were an afterthought. I expected a quiet, simple stay, just clean and comfortable. It didn’t feel or smell clean, and it didn’t operate like a hotel should. If you want a peaceful, clean hotel stay, this probably isn’t it, though the front desk employee was lovely.

The rooms are fantastic, and we’ve been staying here long term. I wouldn’t want to do business with anyone else. Amina & Darrell are amazing and are there for you throughout your stay. They really care and do whatever they can to make you feel at home.

I’d paid for a room booking here, but when I arrived to check in, nobody was at the front desk. There was a number for “after hours,” but nobody answered when I called, and there wasn’t a voicemail set up. Then a man came to the door without identifying himself or showing that he worked at the hotel, and told me all the rooms were full. I hadn’t been contacted or told they’d filled up despite my paid booking. I asked for a refund for the room I never received and was denied. After calling several times, someone told me they’d request one, but later I got an email saying they rejected my “cancellation” and wouldn’t proceed further. I’m very disappointed and don’t recommend this place.

The manager really showed care and service. We spoke with him the morning after our first night, when the heat was broken. He said he’d fix it or move us to another room, and explained the charges so we understood they were meant to protect us from having our card information stolen. After we returned from Thanksgiving with friends, the room had plenty of heat and there was a nice note from him. He also asked the next morning how we slept and whether we needed anything else. I would’ve rated the room four stars because of the broken heat that first night, and the way the room is charged is a little different. The manager handled both concerns well, and we’ll use his hotel when we’re in the Simpsonville area. He has a caring attitude and wants his guests to be pleased. I hope he goes far in the hotel industry if that’s what he wants.
