I usually only write a review when I feel strongly, and I feel strongly about this because safety is a concern. I personally wouldn't recommend this to anyone I know. The location is fine, but the rooms and service are mediocre. Small things first: the TV remote didn't work, though the front desk gave us a replacement and fixed that. The mattresses feel like cushioned metal, the sheets were stained, and the pillows are tiny and start to feel like cushioned metal too, so bring your own. At breakfast, the only things that felt safe were cereal and yogurt, and the waffle machine was okay. The biscuits for biscuits and gravy were rock hard, the gravy was soupy and tasted sour to my boyfriend, and neither was even warm. The juice from the machine tasted off. The room phone didn't work. We have our cell phones, but that could be a problem in an emergency. The worst part was waking at 11:30 pm to a woman screaming bloody murder in the hallway, then hearing someone bang on doors and try to get into our room. The doors don't seem very sturdy, and it was terrifying. We had the deadbolt on, though I wondered whether it did anything, and wedged a washcloth into the door stopper. Somehow she, or whoever it was, didn't get in. I hope she's okay. I almost stuck my head out, but we stayed quiet for our own safety. I wanted to call the front desk, but the phone was conveniently broken. You can hear everything outside, upstairs, in the hall, and in neighboring rooms. I'm pretty sure our upstairs neighbor paces all night. If I'd known about these problems, I'd have paid a little more for peace of mind, comfort, and a restful night. I'm still thinking about finding somewhere else for tomorrow night. Take my advice or don't, maybe you'll have a better experience. At least lock your door. Sincerely, a girl who isn't getting much sleep tonight.
I’ve stayed here twice in two weeks. The remodeling looks good and everything feels new, with no bad odors. The firm mattress was especially good for my lower back. Staff were accommodating, the hot water and heat worked well even with 18° outside, and breakfast was fresh, especially the biscuits. I’d recommend it.
The floors looked all right at first, but were visibly dirty when I looked closer. The check-in was also extremely unprofessional. Staff said the card reader was broken and kept asking me to say my card number aloud in the lobby. I refused, then suddenly the reader worked, but they said the card was declined, so I used a second one. That evening I checked my accounts and saw the supposedly declined card had been charged for the room, while the other card had the incidental hold. Management never explained why. After leaving, I got a fraud alert on one of the cards I’d used and had to replace it. I wouldn’t stay here again because of the security concerns and poor cleanliness.
There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby, and the price felt good for what you get. My favorite part was the seat by the window. The room had a dorm-like feel, but it was a nicer version set up for working or studying. Pretty cool, and much better than I expected.
The rooms are a good value, but the incidental charge is frustrating. They take $50 US and return it a few days later. Since I’m Canadian, the exchange rate costs me both when they charge it and when they refund it.
