Bodins Resort

Being right on the lake makes the grounds beautiful, but a lot of upkeep seemed to have been missed. Logs and timbers had washed onto the beach, brush along the shoreline was overgrown, and some stairs and a broken bridge on the paths looked unsafe. We visited years ago and everything was perfect then. What happened? Did Jeff retire?

The grounds were nicely kept, with places to sit by the water and watch the sunrise or sunset. We had space next to our cottage for the boat, and the boat launch on the property was handy. The owner, Bill, stopped by to welcome us with his puppy and gave my husband fishing tips on bait and where to fish this time of year, in fall. Our “blue” cottage was actually white, but we absolutely loved its view. Bill also told us it was going to be bulldozed in a couple of weeks to make room for a new one. We’re looking forward to seeing it. We had a very enjoyable stay.

That huge stretch of lawn from the patio steps down to the lake gave my dog plenty of room to run and play. It was his first road trip vacation. My sister and I stayed three days in the white cabin with my dog. It had a nostalgic, rustic feel, and the big windows looked out over Lake Superior.

We got to relax on the deck at night, wake up to Lake Superior right outside each morning, and have a fire on the lakeshore. Our dogs had all that grass to run around in, plus the shore. Bill was a wonderful host and made sure we had what we needed. The cabin felt cozy and homey, with everything we needed and thoughtful touches. After a hectic year of COVID, buying a house, getting dogs, and settling into married life, we couldn’t have picked a better spot for our first anniversary. Our stay at Bodin's Bayfield Resort was far too short, and we can’t wait to come back for longer. Bodin Fisheries had some of the best smoked fish we’ve ever had, too. Definitely check it out :)
