At the White House

This was our favorite stop in the different parts of SE Alaska we visited. The old inn has a quaint feel, and while the rooms aren't fancy, they're clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. It's an easy walk to downtown and the restaurants, yet quiet through the day and at night. The innkeeper was helpful, friendly, and quick to respond. We'd happily come back.

We spent five nights here and it felt more like being welcomed into someone's home than staying at an inn. The owner is on site and reachable by phone, and we had everything we needed, though rooms aren't serviced daily. It's just a few blocks from Broadway and the center of town, a handy base for seeing this beautiful part of the world. My husband and I seek out historic houses and hotels when we travel. They come with plenty of character, but sometimes the practical comforts can be a challenge. Here, we had reliable hot water, a comfortable room temperature, and a very comfortable bed.

The room had a comfortable bed, a useful ceiling fan for summer, and the building was fairly quiet. The main shops are within a reasonable walk. One drawback for me was that pets aren't allowed, and they didn't have Breakfast or Orange Pekoe tea, though there were plenty of other teas. It's a beautiful historic home, and the information binder is worth a look. The Army used it as a hospital during WWII, and there's also a very entertaining, funny story about someone hiking the 33-mile Chilkoot Trail in one day. Highly recommend staying here.

I was here for work in September and had a very pleasant stay. The rooms were quiet and exceptionally clean, and the service was terrific. It’s one of the most distinctive hotels I’ve stayed in, with unusual old-school decor. I’d recommend it if you're in Skagway.
