Americas Best Value Inn Smithfield

My son and I spent about four months here while we waited for housing, and we were very happy with our stay. Mike, the hotel manager, was kind and welcoming; the front desk staff were courteous and helpful, and the housekeeping team were all sweethearts. The rooms felt clean and comfortable, the property was tidy, and it was quiet. We had no problems during the whole time. If you're looking for a safe, clean, affordable place in Smithfield, America's Best Value Inn would be my first stop.

We were traveling with my elderly parents, so we needed a first floor room with walk-in access. We were first placed in an end unit by the woods, with no other cars in the lot, then moved to another room where the TV didn't work. We checked for bed bugs and didn't find any, but there were other bugs. The comforter had blood on it, and the room was so filthy I put a towel in the tub before showering. We had only a quarter roll of toilet paper, two towels, and two washcloths. We went to the office and waited for extra towels, but nobody came. The breakfast looked days old, and I wouldn't feed it to my dog. This place is hard to find, and that's probably for the best. Pass it by. To clarify the owner's response, we went to the office and called about the TV and towels, but nobody was there or picked up. I do not lie. The 100% cleanliness rating looked like it had been written in crayon, and blood on a comforter is not clean. That's a fact. Read the other reviews. As a professional, I'm hardly a racist; I love and support all people. I told the truth, and that accusation is deeply offensive.

The furniture besides the bed was dated, but the room was clean and comfortable. There wasn't a stray hair in the bathroom, and the bed was more comfortable than beds I've had at most four-star hotels. It looks like they're trying to upgrade the rooms. The desk clerk was honest and very helpful. Great staff, and I'd stay again.

Years ago, when I was going through a hard time and splitting my days between hotels and my car, this place was reasonably priced and the employees were always wonderful. It's not fancy, but you get a decent stay for what you pay. Breakfast was available, and the staff, including the room cleaners, were so nice. I haven't stayed recently, and I'm doing better now with no reason to return, but I still recommend Americas Best when people travel through town.
