Super 8 by Wyndham Smithfield/Selma

At the end of August 2025, our family was making the long drive from Milton Florida to Woodland NC when our alternator failed in the middle of the night. My husband, our 5 year old son, and I got safely off the highway, then walked about 15 minutes until we found this Super 8. The Owners Son and Wife came out and asked if we needed help. He said he was a mobile mechanic and could tow us, but since it was late and we were parked safely, we told him we were okay. He asked us to see him in the morning, and we'd checked in for the night and accepted his offer to take us where we needed to go to fix the car. We talk about that night all the time, and how much you helped us. We can never thank you and your family enough for being so kind. We need more people like you in the world.

We'd stayed here several times in past years and chose it again because it used to be clean and well kept. This visit was completely different. Check-in was fine and the staff were nice enough, but the rest of the stay was awful. The room was dirty and worn. My service dog's white paws and the bottoms of our socks got filthy just walking around. The sheets looked clean, but the top blanket was stained. We were in a non-smoking room, yet our things now smell of stale smoke, probably because we were near an exit. Smokers gathered right outside the doors, so guests had to pass through smoke, and it came inside whenever the doors opened. There were kids running and playing in the halls after midnight, and a TV in the room next door blared all night. We could hear it over our already loud heat and AC, and it got even more noticeable when we turned them off. At 3 a.m., tired and sleepless, we tried calling the desk but got no answer. A sign said someone was helping another guest and would be back in five minutes. We waited 20 minutes before giving up and returning to our room. I'm sure they went off for a nap somewhere. Nice for them, since we didn't get to sleep. As I write this, the TV is still blasting. We have hours of driving ahead and are checking out more exhausted than when we arrived. This place was horrible. Avoid it at all costs.

The staff were nice, but the room and the noise made for a rough two-night stay. We killed a roach in the room, the floors left our feet dirty, and the bed and pillows weren't comfortable. The faucet had no screen and sprayed water everywhere, the pressure was awful, and the toilet shifted and squeaked when we sat down or stood up. Our key stopped working after the first night. There were people smoking outside the front door, plus loud TVs, arguing, and kids screaming in the hall at all hours. When we mentioned the problems at checkout, the desk person offered nothing.

We've brought our dog here twice a year for several years, but our last visit was a letdown. The pet-friendly rooms we were given smelled overwhelmingly of deodorizer or cleaning solution, and our throats started hurting right away. The Front Desk staff were very nice and accommodating, and our money was refunded, so we stayed somewhere else. The rooms just weren't acceptable to us.
