Unit 219 was wildly overpriced, very dated, and noisy. The internet was slow and the heat didn't work. The owners aren't doing a good job of updating the units. At $380 a night, I felt completely ripped off. The only upside is being close to the slopes.
We've stayed at Mountain Lodge for years, mainly for its handy spot at the top of the mountain beside the Ballhooter Lift. Ski-in, ski-out is easy, and the Village is just a short walk away for food, shopping, and activities. The views are hard to beat too. The exterior has been nicely updated, and interior renovations are coming. Since every unit belongs to a different owner, decor, upgrades, and cleanliness can vary. For slope access and convenience, Mountain Lodge has worked well for us.
I was extremely disappointed by the Mountain Lodge store's refund policy. I bought a sweatshirt that didn't fit, but they wouldn't refund me because all purchases are final sale. There was no sign saying “sale,” let alone “final sale,” and the salesperson didn't mention that returns weren't allowed. The only place this was disclosed was on the receipt, which you only get after paying. I messaged the Mountains Lodge and got a surprising reply that more or less justified this as normal policy, even though I see it as a violation of customer rights. I've never run into this before.
It's been quite a few years since I went, but I remember a great atmosphere and a great place. The mountain setup makes for a good time, and snowboarding seemed quite a bit more popular than skiing. Some things are pricey, though I can understand that given how remote it is.
Honestly, I've never dealt with ruder people. The managers showed no respect. When I walked down to check on my kid in ski school, asking for help clearly felt like an annoyance to them. While I was at Snowshoe, I repeatedly heard Mountain Lodge employees being hateful toward Snowshoe employees. They told them to leave their buildings, made them go outside to reach their spaces instead of using areas in the building, even where it wasn't safe, and damaged their property. The Snowshoe employees were consistently helpful and kind, but Mountain Lodge gives the place a bad name. This hotel isn't part of Snowshoe and just takes advantage of being on the slopes. They don't even salt the parking lot and show no consideration or respect for people on the mountain. It's all about their own gain. I'd strongly recommend Silver Creek or Expedition Express instead.
