What makes this place stand out year after year is the staff. With leaders like Rafe and Haley managing the front desk, the hotel keeps delivering outstanding customer service. The facilities are top notch, too, and the gym, shuttle, and jacuzzi/pool area are great amenities. Add the unbeatable spot next to the new gondola, and there’s no better place to stay when skiing in Park City. It’s a one of a kind experience.
The resort itself was lovely, tucked into the mountain among other properties. Our rooms were large: one had a king bed and a full kitchen, and the other was a hotel-style room with a king. The fireplace was nice, the jacuzzi was just the right temperature, the pool was heated, and the gym was a good size. Construction on the new ski lift and residences behind the property made some noise, but I don’t think it affected our stay. The service started rough. Check-in was quick, but we weren’t given much information. We chose self-parking and came back late on our first night to find no spaces. A maintenance worker told us that after 8 p.m. it was valet only and to leave our keys at the desk. I left the car out front, wrote my own valet ticket, and went inside. The man at the desk didn’t look up and was condescending and rude as he explained the policy we hadn’t been told about. The next morning I spoke with Rebekah, who was kind and apologetic. She contacted the managers, and I was reached right away to sort things out. Hailey and Kyler were also very nice and tried to make it right, which I think they did. I gave four stars because of that first day out of our four. I used to be a front-end supervisor at five-star resorts, and that first night’s service didn’t deserve any stars.
The room felt huge thanks to the vaulted ceiling, and the balcony looked out over the pool and mountains. It was peaceful to sit there at night. The beds were incredibly soft, and we slept well. They’d even wrapped bathrobes and left one on each queen bed. We also had a mini fridge and sink/kitchenette, which came in handy for storing leftovers from nearby restaurants. The staff were really nice and helpful. The room was relaxing, and we’d happily stay here again.
The private patio was pleasant, with a natural screen for privacy, and I appreciated the outdoor pool, heated jacuzzi, and fireplace. Restaurants were only about a three-minute walk away, and there are shops nearby in season. The transit system is remarkable, with mini shuttles to Old Town and transfer hubs farther out. Rides between towns are free. I was surprised the staff didn’t provide information or schedules for transportation. Still, I liked being able to leave the Lodge before their company-owned rides started operating and reach SLC International AirPort in time for my flight. My first impression was impressive until I opened the sliding doors and saw a construction site. Management was willing to find a solution, and moved me to an easy-to-access room on a lower level.
The suite furniture was disgusting, with stains all over the chairs, and the room looked dirty and neglected. They were trying to sell me a $38,000 vacation package, yet put me in a room like that. I could travel the world many times on my own for that money. The tour was one of the worst I’ve experienced. They wouldn’t show me any actual documents or contracts, and just kept saying it was trustworthy because it was under the Hilton name. The timeshare offer was a rip-off: $38,000 for one week a year, with maintenance fees that can rise without limits. The only figures they showed me were scribbled on a sheet of paper. No contract, no disclosures, nothing in writing. When they realized I wasn’t going to buy, they rushed me out. It was a sign now and get involved every year or you can’t get it later kind of deal. They also promised a $200 voucher for attending the presentation, but that turned out to be a rebate program you have to apply for after traveling somewhere else, not a $200 stay or credit as advertised. It’s disappointing to see Hilton associated with bait-and-switch tactics. I was promised a credit, not a rebate, and the sales pitch had zero transparency.
