Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Del Mar/Solana Beach

Denise was so understanding and helpful when we called after checkout because my husband had left something in the room. At check-in, the front desk agent was courteous too. We had a great stay, and really appreciated the pleasant service.

The lobby was taken over by two kids’ soccer teams for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It basically became their kitchen, leaving it unusable for other guests. Having worked in hospitality, I think they should have been made to rent a room for that. The check-in situation also left me baffled. The hotel’s computer system was down when we arrived this weekend, and staff handed out master keys. We weren’t asked for IDs, and when I mentioned two guests would arrive late and asked to leave their names so they could get keys, the front desk guy said they only needed to give the room number. No ID or even a name was required, so anyone with a room number could have gotten a key. It felt unsafe.

Restaurants and beaches are an easy walk from here, which is a great location. The property could use an update, though. My first-floor sliding door to the courtyard locked, but it didn’t close tightly, so outside noise came through more than it should have. I arrived around 11 pm and had to wait about ten minutes because nobody was at the front desk.

The location is the only thing this place has going for it. My room was dirty and really worn, with a broken shower handle, torn curtains, and other signs of age. Noise was even worse, I could hear everything from the courtyard and neighboring rooms. It was unbearable. I’ll never stay here again, one of the worst Marriott properties I’ve visited.
