There was little solitude at the lodge, as my friend put it. Noise and poor ventilation made the stay miserable. Our small condo reached 80 degrees, and without AC or a central fan, opening the windows four inches and propping the balcony door open was all we could do. It was in the 60s outside, but our room stayed above 75 until 7 a.m., so we all slept terribly. Construction began right outside our door at 8 a.m., with vehicles beeping as they backed up. We never knew whether the front doors would be accessible or roped off. The balcony wasn’t pleasant either, with diesel exhaust and hot asphalt smells in the air.

The shuttle made getting between the ski runs and lodges easy all day, and rentals and the ticket office for skis and snowshoes were just steps from our building. Our five-year-old granddaughter had a lesson on day one and skied on her own the next day. We also got 20% off the room, lesson, and lift ticket. This was our second stay at Solitude Resort, and we were glad to choose Powderhorn Lodge this time. Our room was perfectly placed in the Resort Village, with a great layout, kitchen, bunk beds, private bedroom, large bathroom, and fireplace. We could walk to all the restaurants, shops, and amenities. It was a perfect trip, thank you Solitude Resort!

The location is spectacular and the amenities are decent, which makes this a real shame. We were in a unit facing the mountain and the hot tub, where people held late-night parties. I called the front desk and got a security number, but nobody answered when I called. What if it had been a real emergency? A large group was playing loud music in the hot tub, disturbing others and ignoring the Covid-19 guidelines. Ski and snowboard gear was also left all over the halls. If people followed the rules posted around the property, the place could be perfect.

Beautiful surroundings and a very comfortable stay. The room and some of the other services could use a little improvement.

Our three-bedroom condo at Solitude Village was comfortable, though it wasn’t high end.
