Ramada by Wyndham South Bend

Our room had a problem, but Ashley at reception and the maintenance crew fixed it promptly while we were out. It was one of the quietest hotel rooms I've had, and the indoor pool was actually heated. The South Bend sights were easy to get to from this location. My only complaint: the room needed another light, or lampshades that let more light through.

There was no hot water late at night or in the morning, and apparently expecting it on a busy, fully booked weekend is unusual. The tub had no stopper and looked as if someone had washed 100 swine in it. Housekeeping said the marks weren't dirt, just permanent stains. The bath mats were frayed and old, the complimentary makeup wipes were expired, two of the three ice machines were broken, and the pool was out of order. The place is run down and the owner doesn't seem to care. Even the wonderful chocolate milk machine at “breakfast” made me wonder about the bacteria inside, given the condition of the rest of the hotel. It's March 21st and the Christmas displays are still up. Don't stay here, this could ruin your trip.

The heating unit in room 131 was extremely loud and only worked on high, which made it hard to sleep. The property was also very cold, old, and poorly maintained. My room had serious cleanliness and upkeep problems: dirty, stained mattresses in all three rooms, water coming in through the windows, soggy carpet, a shower head pulling away from the wall, a bathroom ceiling sagging from water damage, visible grime and urine on the toilet, dead bugs, and food and debris under the bed frames. I can accept an older hotel or room if it's clean, but old and dirty is unacceptable. I took photos and will share them with Wyndham Corporate. Cleanliness and upkeep clearly aren't priorities here. I strongly recommend not staying at Wingate by Wyndham – South Bend.

Breakfast was cold, unappetizing, and seemed to have been sitting out too long. The pool was also closed without explanation or signage. Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful, acting as if guests were a bother. The room felt neglected and dirty, with surfaces that looked like they hadn't been wiped properly in ages. Even the water was cold when I tried to shower, making an already miserable stay worse. I can't understand how this place stays in business. It was awful from start to finish, and I'd strongly advise people to stay away unless they want discomfort, poor service, and disappointment.
