Comfort Inn & Suites South Burlington near University

We drove all the way from Virginia to Burlington, and staying at the Comfort Inn in Burlington, Vermont made the trip even better. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with good heating, and the bathrooms were clean and very nice. Everything seemed well maintained and organized. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful throughout, and service was excellent. Breakfast had a big selection of fresh, tasty options each morning, which was a lovely start to the day. We felt well looked after and had a really pleasant, relaxing stay.

The bathroom floor tiles are chipped, and there’s mold on the wall where the wallpaper is peeling. We had to ask the front desk for basic things the room was missing, like towels and a Do Not Disturb sign. When we came back this evening, both beds were unmade and the room hadn’t been serviced. If guests are supposed to request housekeeping, that should have been explained at check-in yesterday. We’re tidy guests, but someone could at least have emptied the trash. Breakfast was being cleared away at 9:15 this morning even though it was advertised until 9:30, so we’ll eat elsewhere tomorrow. This is one of the least pleasant hotel stays I’ve had. I’ll end my relationship with Choice Hotels if this is what Comfort Inn and Suites South Burlington offers. We’d hoped to make it our regular spot when visiting family.

The hotel was noisy day and night, with guests being really loud, and I couldn’t get proper rest. At $150 a night, I’d rather drive through snow than deal with this again. The room had an ink-stained pillowcase, though all the pillows had stains, and I was charged $40 for it. The room notice says a pillow costs $25 if you take one, so I don’t understand where $40 came from. I asked to speak with the general manager and wasn’t allowed to. Apparently, business guests can’t stay six consecutive nights or more because that makes them residents, but this rule isn’t posted and staff didn’t mention it at check-in. I knew that claim was bullshit because I stayed for months at another Comfort Inn in a different Vermont city for a work assignment, and nobody brought it up. I’d recommend video-recording the room when you arrive and on checkout day. It feels like a scheme to charge guests.

The desk clerk was nice enough to apologize, but the breakfast tables were dirty and the orange juice machine said it needed refilling while the attendant stood at the desk talking. The same attendant accused my mom and me of being homeless because we came in for breakfast from outside instead of through the hotel rooms. They stared until I asked if there was a problem, and I had to show my room key before they got back to work. I’m pretty easy to please and usually only complain about things like a TV that won’t turn on or a missing door, lol. But the air conditioner didn’t seem to work. At 67 it felt like 80, and at 45 it felt like 70. The internet was a joke too. My phone wouldn’t even load the page to connect because of security issues.
