The Anchor Room was a relaxing place to get away, and the lake view was amazing. The scenery made our visit feel special, and we had a really enjoyable stay. I think staff are only there during certain times of the year, but that didn't cause us any trouble. We'd recommend it for a quiet escape.

We were glad to be away from the crowds across Acadia. Bar Harbor had been our first choice, and Winter Harbor was about an hour away from there and far from many of the usual attractions. But the quieter setting worked out well for us, especially since the busy tourism on the other side felt overwhelming. The four of us stayed in the Chickadee Room in October 2025. I've stayed in places around the US and the world, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but this exceeded it. The place is simple, with a stunning view, a good selection of tea and coffee, and a shared space where we read and played board games. We liked our room too, though it was a bit dim. If you have eyesight problems, keep that in mind; the windows do brighten it during the day. The owners would text recommendations now and then, and helped us find some great food and wonderful spots on this side of Acadia. If a serene, beautiful, simple place is what you're after, this is it.

The last time we stayed in the main inn, a couple of months ago, we found the driveway unplowed after a heavy snowfall. The inn was vacant apart from us, there was no staff on site, and there was no heat. It was so cold that we left. When I called to report the problems and say we couldn't stay, the response was just, "Okay." They didn't apologize or offer to fix anything or refund us. I had to ask for a full refund, and they said they'd "look into it" and get back to me. They never did, so I disputed the charge with my credit card company. Around the same time, friends staying in the Raven's Nest cabin told us the shower was filthy, with long black hairs all over the walls. We'd been regular guests at Bluff House Inn for several years, staying many times in the main inn, cabins, and Raven's Nest log home. Under the McQuade family's ownership, we always had a positive experience. They ran the inn amazingly and went out of their way to care for guests, especially returning ones like us. About a year ago, it was sold to out of state investors. They own short term rentals around the country and aren't on site, and in our view they don't understand customer service or how to give guests a good experience. It seems obvious they don't care much about the property, which has been neglected. This is nothing like the days when a local family cared for the inn and its guests. We miss the McQuade family era. I don't expect we'll return any time soon, if ever.

My wife and I came from Maryland for a week in the Gorham cabin. It was basic, just as advertised, and clean and ready when we arrived. The sunrise and sunset views were good, and we even saw a rainbow during a storm. With a full moon, we couldn't see much at night, though normally the stargazing is probably great. The on-site trail was a fun first chance to get a close look at the rocky shore. We had a check-in hiccup when the cabin's window AC unit had been removed and taken away. Staff handled it right away and professionally, and brought us another within literal minutes. The cabins are a great choice if you want something a little beyond camping outside the Acadia area. Schoodic point and the surrounding area were great.
