Martha's Vineyard Bed & Breakfast

Patty and Bruce are lovely people who clearly care about both the property and their guests. We stayed December 26-28th, and the room was perfect, warm, and inviting, with a double-person jetted tub beside the bed. Breakfast was some of the best I’ve ever had. Their cat and dog were the sweetest, too. While we ate breakfast, they freshened up the room with new towels, emptied the trash, and even made the bed. I can’t express how happy we were with our stay.

We celebrated our fifth anniversary here and would love to come back. The owners were welcoming and shared ideas for places to eat and things to see. We stayed in the guest house, where breakfast came each morning in a cute picnic basket. The meals were really good, well beyond standard eggs and potatoes. My wife went out for her morning coffee and had deer right outside our door. The room was perfect, and the fireplace kept us cozy all night. Thanks for a great experience.

Our two-night stay at Martha's Vineyard Bed & Breakfast in South Haven was a disappointing and unpleasant experience. When we entered the room, there was a strong deodorizer smell. The owner removed it when we asked, and we noticed more in the hallway. We guessed they might be used to cover odors in the rooms. After moving our things in, we went out to explore South Haven and have dinner. When we returned, the room was very cold, so we called to troubleshoot. A few hours later, as we were going to bed, my wife woke me because the smell was bothering her. She had issues with her mouth and tongue and trouble breathing. We tried several things to make it more comfortable, but nothing worked. We had to leave around 11:30 that night. The owners weren’t available to talk to at that hour. We contacted them the next morning and were offered a different room. My wife was still having issues, and we didn’t want to risk going through the same thing again. We asked for a refund for one night, but they refused. They said they’d refund it only if someone else booked the room that evening. We knew that seemed unlikely, since several rooms were already available. We felt the customer service fell short for an issue like this. We’d never recommend staying here. I saw the response, and we can agree to disagree. You can argue that the solutions offered would have made the second night better, but you don’t understand how my wife felt after breathing the air in the room for three to four hours that evening. We’ve stayed in many places and never had this problem. Saying you stand by not offering any refund for the health complications from the air in the room is just wrong. We didn’t even ask for a refund for the first night, when we had other issues. I can’t believe you’d be okay with it if it happened to you. Wishing you the best moving forward, but I don’t feel you handled this well. God bless.

I stayed in the back cottage in the middle of winter. It was a beautiful, cozy place, and the breakfasts were incredible. They were very gracious and fully accommodated my food allergies. They went above and beyond.
