We had a great base for skiing and exploring the village at Marriott Grand Residence Club, Lake Tahoe, just steps from the Heavenly gondola. A Target is an easy walk away, and Whole Foods is a four-minute drive. The suites are roomy, with a full kitchen, and the private jacuzzi tub was lovely after a day on the slopes. I also liked the heated bathroom light on cold winter nights. The mountain feel comes through, while the place stayed comfortable and clean. The staff were warm and helpful with local suggestions and quick requests. One day housekeeping missed our room, but after we called, they sorted it out within 30 minutes and gave it a thorough tidy. Everything was cleaned, and our belongings were neatly folded. Keria, thanks for the thoughtful service and nice touches. I'd gladly return for the location, comfort, and service. It's a good fit for a ski trip or a relaxing weekend by the lake.
Centrally located for a lot of activities, from glass-bottom kayaking and hot air ballooning to the Gandola, within about 500 meters to 20 miles. The residence club felt like a home away from home: a suite, folding extra bed, fireplaces, full kitchen and dining area, full fridge, hot plate, and toaster. Laundry is complimentary, and housekeeping comes daily. Highly recommended.
The workout room is wonderful, and the cleaning staff do very good work. Apart from that, this Marriott seemed more focused on what it could get from guests than on customer satisfaction. Valet costs $45 a night, while Hilton down the waterfront road charges $27. There are no extras: no TV because they're in a dispute with Comcast, no vending, coffee, or ice. Notes and texts repeatedly ask you to clean your room, including undoing your bedding. The worst part was the credit card issue. During our three-day stay, they shut down our card three times by putting through separate charges to check that it was open. One day it was a $16 room tax charge, and another came the next day. The desk and manager couldn't help, so each day we spent 20 minutes on the phone with Mastercard trying to keep our work card open.
We couldn't get cellular service in our room; it felt like a faraday cage. Opening the balcony door let a signal in, and the hotel WiFi mostly made up for it. Everything else, from the location to the service, was top notch. I'd highly recommend staying here, especially if you're planning to ski at Heavenly.
This was a disappointing stay from beginning to end. It was advertised on the Bonvoy app as a hotel, but felt more like a boarding house, or an AirBnB at best. The place was worn out and had no facilities such as bars or food. The required $35 valet charge felt like another hidden or undisclosed fee in Marriott's usual pattern. The sauna was only warm, and its rotted floor was a trip hazard. The steam room was okay. Our room heater barely worked and took until the middle of the night to warm things up. When we asked about food, staff suggested the local Target supermarket. Avoid.
