High Country Lodge

Room 105 was clean and renovated, and a great value for the area. We could hear the heater and people partying, but turning on the fan in the unit by the door made it fine.

The rooms were awful and smelled bad. There was hair on the towels and bedding, and the whole experience was disgusting. The old showers were loud and moldy, and the heater was noisy too. They also double the price when only one room is left, which feels very exploitative. Water isn’t included in the room, and a 0.5 L bottle costs $1 at “reception”.

The place was very quiet and clean, and the no-pets, no-smoking policy worked well for us. It’s also not too far from the PCT or a Tesla Supercharger. I’d give it a 4.5, though the beds and pillows were quite firm. We couldn’t cool the room even after gradually lowering the AC setting from 71 to 68. I was glad to find a freezer in the fridge because I travel with medication that needs to stay cold, and when it’s 90 to 100 degrees outside we freeze water bottles. But ours wouldn’t freeze anything. Luckily there was an ice machine and I had baggies, so that’ll do for now.

The location suited me well. It’s easy to get around from there, but set back from the road and away from the craziness closer to town, so there wasn’t much noise. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, though I always bring my own pillow. Check-in was easy, and the woman helping us was professional, pleasant, and very helpful. My friend thought she’d lost her expensive ring when we headed out to an event. She called the motel, and the cleaning staff kindly searched outside and around the parking lot to reassure her. It turned out she’d left it on the bathroom counter. This was a great find, and I highly recommend High Country Lodge.
