The Coachman Hotel

We loved how cozy and pet-friendly this hotel was, but a staff member added unauthorized tips to our bill twice, each well over 20%. We ordered a $40 bottle of wine, and the person processing the first payment added a gratuity without asking. I only noticed later. When we ordered another bottle, he did it again. This time I caught it as it happened, stopped the transaction, and confronted him. I told him two or three times I intended to tip and he didn't need to do that. He looked visibly nervous and only tried to fix it after being caught the second time. A tip is the guest's choice. Adding an inflated tip without consent is stealing. If he did it to us twice, I can only imagine how many tourists or other guests might have been charged without noticing. The staff member was a tall, dark-haired man with tattoos on his arm, working bar/front service when we ordered the wine. Management and ownership should audit the receipts and tip entries from that shift and address this directly. Guests should check every line of the receipt before signing and keep a copy.

The outdoor fire pit was a highlight, great for cozy evenings, conversations, and meeting people. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the place has a warm, social feel. It's also very dog-friendly, with a spacious lobby where our dog babies could really relax. We even hang out in the cozy, inviting lobby when we aren't staying overnight. The self-serve kitchen was clean and well stocked, and it was included in the room rate. You can make your own breakfast, and there's a great tea selection available all day. The gondola is just a five-minute walk away, and the main restaurants are close by. We've been coming to Lake Tahoe for years, and this has become one of our regular spots.

The outdoor area was a favorite part of our trip. Spending the evening with a drink by the fire pits, among pine trees and mountain air, was lovely. The hotel is close to the lake, Heavenly, good restaurants, and everything we wanted to do in South Lake Tahoe, yet it still feels peaceful and tucked away. Our room was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable after long days exploring Tahoe. The place has a nice mix of a cozy mountain lodge and a modern boutique hotel. The staff were all welcoming and friendly, and seemed to care about making the stay go well. It feels well managed and thoughtfully run. This is one of the best places we've stayed in Tahoe, and we'll absolutely return. I'd recommend it to couples, friends, or anyone wanting a relaxing, stylish getaway.

The main building and firepit were cute and cozy, and you can buy breakfast or enjoy the bar on site. We stayed with friends for a girls trip. The room was clean and the location was convenient, close enough to walk most places in town. It was very simple and a little cramped, so probably not great for a longer visit, but it did the job.
