The location is the motel’s biggest strength. Downtown South Lake Tahoe is close, and it’s family and pet friendly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are larger rooms and family rooms with bunks, plus heating, AC, a TV, internet, a coffee maker, a mini fridge, and a microwave. The room looked like the photos, and for a short family trip or pit stop with pets, it was just OK. In my opinion, you get what you pay for, though it really needs renovation. I might come back unless the conditions get worse or the prices go up. I stayed in an upstairs family room over a holiday weekend. I knew prices had gone up for that time of year and other places did the same, but I still felt I paid too much for the quality. This family-owned motel was basic from the outside and could use some care. The stairs were lopsided and coming apart. The deck outside the upper rooms slanted toward the railing, with dips and broken or burnt tabletops. It didn’t feel safe. Inside, the dog urine smell was pungent enough that I considered the room dirty. I'm used to animals and understand it was a pet-friendly family room, but other guests might find that appalling. The shower temperature kept changing, and getting a warm shower took constant fiddling. The coffee maker was broken and sprayed hot coffee over the counter. The room seemed not to have had a deep clean or maintenance in a long time. The king bed's headboard was pulling out of the drywall because the screws had been placed improperly. Simple work like fixing the deck, replacing the outdoor tables, and deep-cleaning the carpets periodically would do wonders.
We booked one night, opened the lockbox room door, and immediately got hit by a horrendous smell. It was so overpowering and disgusting that I can't believe anyone thought the room was okay to offer. I stood in the doorway in shock. I couldn't tell whether it came from that room or was seeping in from somewhere else. We left the key inside and canceled the reservation from the parking lot.
For a budget stay, this was one of our better ones as a travel agent. The remodeled rooms were very clean, and the location put us close to what we needed, including the beach and the state line. The staff were friendly and ready to help with our questions, and we had a great stay.
The woman on the phone was nice, and checking in was easy. We booked at the last minute on Labor Day weekend, so we were lucky to find anything. The room was clean enough, but the bedside lamp was out and the microwave didn't work. I tried calling the front desk, with no answer and no after-hours number. The place is run down and needs some care. I don't think the room was worth what we paid.
The room smelled bad when I checked in, and the bed covers were full of pet hair. I asked to switch rooms, but the helper said none were available and seemed upset that I raised the issue. They did change the covers, but brought them from another bedroom, so they weren't fresh sheets. At $400, it wasn't worth the price. I had to check out and find another hotel, and paid a cancellation fee. Still, it just wasn't worth it.
