The view was the only good thing about this place. There was black mold in several spots, missing ceiling tiles, water damage, an AC that only blew hot air, and a disgusting bathroom with almost no water pressure. The drains didn’t work, and the door stopper fell down each time we opened the door, so we had to pick it up while holding the door and trying to close it. I’d wished we’d just stayed at my apartment. The nicer, more professional morning crew couldn’t make up for the problems. You couldn’t pay me to stay again. We’d booked a suite for our wedding night and told them ahead of time that we’d arrive separately and late because we were getting married. The door was locked, which was understandable after hours, but the on-call person, Cyrus (sp?), took 15 minutes to come down and was extremely unprofessional. He wouldn’t let me check in until my wife arrived, despite our advance notice, while I was still in my suit. He told me I could wait on my phone. Then he threatened to call security if I went outside to smoke. I understand now that it’s smoke free, but I didn’t know then. A sarcastic “I’d have to call security” with a smile shouldn’t have been the first response. I called my wife to tell her and was asked to keep my voice down in an empty lobby, though I wasn’t being loud.

The quiet, peaceful atmosphere and the friendly student staff made this little historic gem such an easy trip for my husband and me. We loved the small number of guests, the hospitality, and being close to the beach and other places to eat. Breakfast was tasty too. We absolutely loved our stay and will make this a regular spot.

The views were great, but the place felt like a ghost town. There wasn’t a hotel sign, the rooms were really dated, and the HVAC only worked partly. The bedding was stained, and there was no staff after 9pm, so you’re on your own.

It’s a quaint vintage inn, and the employees are hospitality students from the nearby community college who do a great job. The breakfast was pretty skimpy, just four choices: fruit, yogurt, pastry, or a breakfast burrito. The burrito was clearly microwaved and the yogurt was a store carton. Still, I appreciated the coffee station that stays open 24/7 and the snacks they put out during the day. The shower pressure was low and the heat hard to control, though that may come with staying in a vintage inn.

The room was nice, and staying in this area felt different from being in downtown Maine. Just remember it’s a student-run inn without staff there around the clock. They are on call if something comes up.
