TownePlace Suites Portland Airport ME

The room was clean and nicely set up for my overnight stay, and mine looked out over the airport. The kitchen setup was great too if I’d needed a longer visit. The bathroom was spacious and clean, and breakfast in the morning was nice, with standard Marriott options like eggs, waffles, and sausage. Parking was included if needed, though we took the shuttle back to the airport the next morning to get our rental car. This is a great hotel option close to the airport, with a convenient shuttle. I got into PWM fairly late, and it arrived within 10 minutes of my call to the front desk. The nicest touch was that nobody answered at first, but the desk called back about a minute later. It’s at the top of my list for my next Portland stay.

Its convenient location near malls and restaurants is the only thing I can praise. Housekeeping is wildly inconsistent, and rooms are either partly cleaned or not cleaned at all. My sheets weren’t changed for 10 days. I also saw a male housekeeper use a toilet brush on top of the toilet seat, which was completely unacceptable and unsanitary. As someone who previously owned a hospitality company (STR), I’m appalled that a Marriott-branded property is run this poorly. I chose this hotel for my company two years ago and have regretted it ever since. Ironically, Residence Inn Marriott Downtown has older rooms but is much more hospitable, with excellent service staff and properly cleaned rooms. The only times my needs were genuinely met here were by Mario, the Jamaican night auditor, and occasionally Alvaro, who can be helpful. Would I stay again? Absolutely not.

The staff were the real standout at TownePlace Suites. Alyssa was warm and friendly, learned our names, and found special ways to make my toddler excited and happy. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well stocked, and we loved the pool area. Breakfast was hot and fresh. The location was great, safe, easy to find, and close to everything. We had an excellent stay and will be back.

Room service was awesome, and the room was comfortable, but I’ll ask my company not to book me here again. As a pilot with Gold elite level at Marriott, I was shocked they wanted to charge me $3 for water. Hilton, Crowne Plaza, and Embassy Suites all offer us free water, and it’s not as if we don’t stay at these hotels while on the road.
