Wyndham Southbury

I’m leaving three stars because this was the only visit with a problem. My other stays have all been great. The location works well for visiting family, close to the highway but still quiet, and the hotel has a useful EV charger. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are large, and the food is standard hotel fare. This time, though, our room smelled strongly of dog pee throughout, not just in one or two spots. I understand it’s a pet-friendly hotel and some pet odor can happen, but this was excessive. We didn’t have a pet with us.

Both bartenders at the arrowhead lounge were really nice and easy to chat with, and their lemon drop martinis were delicious. I was there for a work conference this past week and had a great stay. The property and rooms were clean, and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I also tried the loaded tots and Buffalo cauliflower at happy hour. It was a nice, enjoyable visit.

I’m glad I spent five days at Southbury Wyndham while taking a solo break from the City to grieve my mom’s passing. The room was comfortable, the shower refreshing, and there were beautiful views in October. Most of the stay was quiet, though after a Saturday trip to enjoy nature and the waterfall at Kent State Park, I came back to a dog barking in the room across the hall. It went on for much of the night. I love dogs and understand that barking is what they do, so all good. I asked the front desk for more toilet paper after the cleaning crew had used strong chemicals in my room while I was out. I hadn’t requested service, but understand it’s their protocol. After that first night, I left the do not disturb sign up and asked the desk about declining daily cleaning; they didn’t clean the room. There’s a restaurant on site, though I ordered my meals through Uber Eats. Four stars because of the strong cleaning products.

The bed was nice and comfortable, everything was clean, and the restaurant food was excellent. Still, this was the most disappointing of the several hotels I stayed in this past week. The woman at the desk seemed annoyed with us, the tub plug didn’t fit right so the water drained before I was done, and the entry to the room was very cramped.
