Comfort Suites Southfield/Detroit

We’ve been staying here on Detroit-area trips for over ten years, and check-in is still quick and easy. This time, though, the noise and strong marijuana smell were disappointing enough that we’ll probably look elsewhere next visit. Our room was over the dumpster, with garbage pickup and people going through it late at night. The thin walls also let us hear arguments and loud conversations from nearby rooms, day and night. The odor was noticeable Sunday and overwhelming at times, especially Saturday night. The room was generally clean, and the sheets and microwave were clean too, but there was hair on the bathroom sink and a noticeable missed spot underneath it.

Evidence of bedbugs during our stay, and my mother was bitten. The employee who responded was defensive. Tiffani Parker was that employee. The hotel says it’s under construction, apparently as an excuse for its condition. The breakfast was barely edible, there was hair on the clean linen, Nike stickers on the mirror, and the mattress had no encasement. I’m still waiting for Devin Dallo, the general manager, to call as requested. Staff posted a response to our review but haven’t called. I’d give zero stars if I could. Stay somewhere else, where they care about customer service, before they gaslight you over poor service. I wonder if the manager will ever call.

The staff were friendly, and the location was great for my birthday trip to the city. We had a good stay and I’d book again if I were in the area. The only snag was the pool: on Saturday night it was so crowded with children that we couldn’t enjoy it. We figured we’d swim in the morning before checkout, then found out the pool area doesn’t open until 1:00pm on Sundays.

I’ve been here for two weeks while waiting for my home to be ready, and it’s loud. All week I’ve heard kids jumping and sliding chairs across the floor at 10 o’clock. I call the desk, but nobody picks up when the guy with locs is there. The ladies do answer. Maybe families with little ones should get ground-floor rooms instead of keeping people below them awake. I have children too, and they have bedtimes. The TV sound hasn’t worked since I got here, the Wi-Fi is bad, and the computer in the computer room doesn’t work. The pool gets cloudy, the pool-room door only works when it feels like it, even before 10pm, and the dryer is broken. They will dry your clothes for you, if anyone was wondering. They should put more water in the weight room. I hope your housekeeper is Re-Re; her kindness is what keeps me here. I’ll stay here whenever I need a room because she makes up for everything that doesn’t work.
