MainStay Suites Southfield-Detroit

This hotel is a catfish. From outside and in the hallways it looks okay, but the rooms are another story. I found roaches, the rooms smelled awful, and three different rooms I went into were all bad. The walls were dirty, and the light bulbs had nasty stuff on them that looked like boogers. It needs to be shut down and renovated.

After one of the worst flight days ever, I met Daniel Anglin and Azel Carmichael. I'd been traveling for 12 hours with a four-hour layover and just wanted to lie down. Some of my party had already been there and left, but after hearing what they'd said, I asked Daniel for the best room and to check in right then instead of waiting until 3 p.m. They were so accommodating. The room was nice and quiet, the microwave and refrigerator were clean, the internet was fast, and the water got VERY HOT. Two weeks earlier I'd stayed at the Harrah’s in vegas and they comped my room because the water wouldn't get hot there. Sonesta Southfield, MI let me check in immediately, something I don't know that another hotel would have done, and they listened to my travel story too. I also talked with donetta, pat, the maintenance man, and the housekeeping girl, and they all had the best attitudes and were accommodating. I didn't meet the manager, but he or she helped make our group whole too. When someone said, 'i want to build a relationship with your organization, not ruin it', that was all that needed saying. I travel a lot, and their hospitality is unmatched. They're going through renovations, so ask if you need something instead of going in acting a fool. Good job, Sonesta Southfield. And don't mind my lowercase typing. I'm not illiterate, that's just how I like to text until I really need to capitalize a word!

After workdays of 10 hours or more, I'd come back to no cleaning, trash still in the room, and terrible service. This place is advertised as a hotel, but it's really a rundown extended-stay apartment complex. There's no daily housekeeping, and you're expected to take your own towels and bedding down. I left trash in the hallway like I would at a normal hotel, and they put it back in my room and fined me $50. I also saw police and EMS respond to a drug overdose on site. Worst hotel experience ever. If you need a safe, clean stay in Southfield, don't stay at Sonesta Simply Suites.

Tiffany was rude and inattentive, and seemed like she didn't want to be there. She didn't do anything to help me. First she said the deposit was $50 in cash, then she said it was $100 on a card. I definitely won't come back, and neither will my friends. Maybe we'll return if they get better workers.
