The Shoals is a clean boutique motel a few minutes from Greenport and NoFo Wine country, but whether it’s worth the price depends a lot on what you can put up with. We booked a Patio King in the back half of the property, closer to the highway and below the Terrace King suites. The outdoor common area has a hammock, fire pit, and Adirondack chairs facing the water. Our room looked like the photos and was clean, with mid-century minimalist decor that still suited the area's maritime feel. It came with a kitchenette, Malin+Goetz toiletries, a Lavazza pod coffee maker, and a reasonably comfortable medium-firm bed. We didn’t use the kitchenette because there was no exhaust outlet for smoke. But comfort and thoughtfulness were missing, and it felt more like an upscale motel than a boutique hotel because the service wasn’t there. The noise was the biggest problem. There was a constant vibrating rumble in our room at all hours. Staff said it was the marina next door and offered earplugs, but the marina doesn’t run 24/7, and it was quieter outside. It seems clearly to be the building's HVAC or mechanical equipment reverberating through the walls. They should be honest about it and address it. The walls are also paper thin. We could hear the couple next door talking, an older gentleman snoring, and every step from the room above. Privacy and amenities fell short too. The sheer curtains at the front of each room let people walking by see straight inside at night. Our Patio King had no patio furniture. We also had no idea there were complimentary bikes, since staff and online check-in never mentioned them. We didn't find out until after booking that they no longer serve continental breakfast. Instead, you get a $10 voucher for Stone Street Cafe, a short drive into town. The food there is amazing, including a GREAT BEC, but the voucher doesn't cover even one meal. There were too many uncomfortable moments for us. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you want peace and quiet or the amenities you paid for.

We were there for one night in January, when it was frigid outside, but the room felt warm, cozy, and welcoming. It was chic, too, with the BEST hotel bed my picky husband and I have ever slept in. The espresso machine was great and actually easy to use, and I loved the Malin + Goetz bathroom products. I never usually write reviews, but I truly loved the hotel and had an amazing time. 10/10. Can't wait to come back when it's warmer!

Waterfront views here come with easy access and a peaceful setting, away from the crowds. The location strikes a nice balance between being close to everything and feeling comfortably above it. At The Shoals Suites & Slips, the suites are pristine, thoughtfully designed, and comfortable enough to feel more like a private residence than a hotel. Their clean lines and upscale finishes are well done. Service was attentive without fuss: no unnecessary chatter and no missed details, with hospitality that seemed to anticipate what was needed. If you expect a high standard, this place delivers. It's polished and intentional in a way that’s expected but rarely achieved, and might raise your expectations if they aren't already high.

The room was really spacious, and the big bed was gorgeously comfortable. I appreciated the thoughtful basics, including water, coffee in the lobby, and all the kitchen items needed for a short stay. You’ll definitely need a car here.

The easy, efficient check-in was a nice start, and Mario was great. The location is convenient for wineries and Greenport restaurants. We were in a comfortable, well-laid-out room with plenty of space to relax, eat, and watch TV, though several basics seemed oddly overlooked. There was no in-room safe, phone, or USB outlet, which felt outdated in such a modern room. We were glad we’d brought adapters. The kitchenette had cutlery, glassware, a coffee machine, sink, and fridge, but no microwave. There was a mini oven and stovetop, but neither worked, and there wasn't even a pot, so they weren't much use. Morning foot traffic was loud enough to make sleeping in difficult. Housekeeping and maintenance were the biggest letdown. We arrived around 5:30 PM, just before the 6 PM check-in cutoff, dropped our bags, and went to dinner. When we came back, the room had no soap, shampoo, or body wash, only a bottle of conditioner. The tissue box had just two tissues left, the bathroom sink was clogged, and the toilet paper was surprisingly poor quality. By then the office was closed, so we couldn't get any of it sorted out. We also heard a couple of loud knocks despite the “Do Not Disturb” sign being up. No one was there when we opened the door either time. One knock seemed to come from a housekeeping cart. The other may have been about checkout, even though we’d already confirmed 11:00 AM and it was only 10:00 AM. We stayed at The Shoals Suites for a quick weekend getaway to kick off the New Year. The location and room layout were good, but missed housekeeping and maintenance details, and the interruptions to our privacy, let the stay down.
