Hampton Inn & Suites Reno/Sparks

We had a wonderful quick visit to Sparks, NV. From our marina-view room, it was great to see Marina Park, and many restaurants were within walking distance. We’re always glad when Hampton Inn has laundry facilities. The weather was so nice that we chose to walk outside instead of using the impressive exercise room. The balcony rooms were another impressive feature.

The property itself is nice, clean, and has spacious rooms and an excellent breakfast. I have no complaints about the accommodations and would recommend the hotel. What I can’t get past is the customer service, the worst I’ve experienced despite staying at lots of hotels. We arrived around midnight after a long drive, and the front desk woman was professional and polite. Their computer system was down, so nobody could be checked in. By 1am she managed to check us in manually and gave us a key. Another couple and a gentleman were in the same situation. My husband and I unloaded our bags and sleeping children, then went anxiously to our room, but our key didn’t work. The other gentleman’s key didn’t work either, while the couple’s key opened an OCCUPIED room!!! The desk attendant apologized and said that only the computers could check us into a vacant room, so there was nothing to do until they were working again. My husband, our FOUR children, including a 3 month old, and I had to wait in the lobby until TWO THIRTY AM. There’s another hotel NEXT DOOR, but they didn’t offer to put us up there. We could wait or leave and hope to find a room somewhere in the middle of the night. In the morning, my husband politely spoke to the manager, who didn’t seem sorry. He said breakfast was about to close and that we had to hurry if we wanted anything for ourselves and the kids?!?!? Later we were offered a refund and a few points on our Hilton account. I understand technology can fail, but their lack of concern and failure to find us somewhere else to stay so late at night was unacceptable. UNBELIEVABLE.

This place is comfortable and economical, and you can walk to restaurants and stores. The marina is a nice bonus, and from the Sierra Nevada views to the location, it’s all about where the hotel sits. Try for a room on the marina side for great views.

The rooms were really nice, and breakfast was good too. Housekeeping, though, had a bad attitude and forgot to clean our room. When I called the front desk, they said it was because our do not disturb sign was up, even though we’d taken it down later in the morning. I also had to go downstairs and get my own towels because the housekeepers wouldn’t bring them up. I was disappointed with how the staff acted, and it makes me not want to stay here again.
