We came for a military graduation, but left immediately and went back to the front desk to say we would not stay. The room was awful: mold around the tub and sink, the f word written on the sheets in pen, and a disgusting cigarette smell throughout. At the entrance, guests were hanging around the front desk, smoking weed, drinking, and making noise. This was March 12, and I was assured I’d get a full refund. It’s now May 13 and it still hasn’t been processed. I contacted my bank and Expedia, and was just told it will be returned. I was shocked a hotel like this existed in America. How can rooms like these be listed for booking?
The place is so seedy that calling it seedy would be a compliment. The building and room looked nothing like the online photos. Our non-smoking room was dirty, with dirty sheets and an immediate smell of cigarette smoke. I was terrified to walk on the floor because it sagged and felt sponge-like underfoot. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, a hole in the door, and part of the wall was held up with thumbtacks. Safety is a serious concern. Nobody should stay here. I couldn’t upload the photos, but I’m reaching out to DEHEC and contacting their corporate office.
After major flight delays, I landed at CAE around 11:30, found the Days Inn Lexington/Columbia on Google Maps, and opened Lyft. I accidentally picked Days Inn Columbia, thinking there was only one Days Inn near the airport. I didn’t realize it was the wrong hotel until another 30 minutes had passed, and by then I was too exhausted to go to the original one. The front desk clerk was wearing dirty sweats and asked me to read my card number aloud twice, as if someone nearby might be listening. Bizarre. Why not use a reader or read it himself? I asked about ice and was told they had none. In the room, the beds seemed clean, but there was a small roach on the floor and mold and rust stains all over the shower. I was dead tired and went to bed, but music woke me two or three times. One stretch lasted 30 minutes at 4:30 a.m., and it was loud enough to be heard by half the hotel. It seemed like that was normal there, since the clientele and manager didn’t mind. In the morning, the internet worked for 45 minutes, then stopped. On the way out, I saw trash scattered around the property and the side road. Worst hotel experience of my life. I couldn’t wait to leave. I dare one Wyndham corporate leader to spend a single night here.
Mike or Micheal was very nice at the front desk. He seemed protective, noticed our faces around the many homeless people, and offered to walk me and my daughter to the room. I was fine with that. When we got there, the room was a mess and not clean. He looked embarrassed, turned red, tried to accommodate us, and even called a housekeeper to see if she could clean it. I really appreciated his effort. We came back the next day to speak with property manager Jarod, but he wasn’t there, so we talked to Barbie, who said she was the head housekeeper. When we explained what happened, she started cussing and acting feral because we said the room’s condition was unprofessional. If she’s the head housekeeper, why act like that? Take the constructive criticism and move along. We got cussed out, then she walked off in that crusty grey wig. She doesn’t deserve the title. I had pictures of her but can’t post them. If you see her, you’ll know who she is. She looks really dusty, goes by Barbie, wears a grey wig that sheds, and always looks like she’s about to cry. The turn-in was unexpected, and there was a big pothole as soon as you hit the stop sign. I guess that was the first sign of trouble. My daughter couldn’t keep her eyes off Mike, lol. He’s a handsome young man.
I was on a long road trip and saw the hotel listed online for $70 a night. My maps showed I’d arrive just before 1 a.m., so I didn’t book because I’ve had problems checking in after midnight before. When I arrived and paid, they charged me $106.40, much more than the listed price. It’s also very close to the highway, so it’s loud.
